Before we get into more of the 2025 Pink Noizes details in the very very near future, WVKR wants to highlight some of the pioneers of club culture and electronic music that inspired this event. There is a rich history of ‘the club’ serving as a place of self-expression, personal freedom, and catharsis for people, especially marginalized groups. To name a few: Webster Hall in Manhattan, the Rockland Palace in Harlem, and q***r clubs of San Francisco that began the clubbing tradition far earlier than the 1970s.
As the scene became commercialized, the history of women, femme, trans, and q***r involvement in those spaces was shut out, in favor of cis male DJs. Pink Noizes is, and always will be, a celebration of the true pioneers of the industry - women, trans, and q***r populations.
A special shoutout to DJ Nancy Noise, pioneer of the Acid House movement, the Ranking Miss P for her revolutionary dub music broadcasting and eventual creation of a UK warehouse club scene, and disco/synthesizer innovator Donna Summer.
WVKR thanks Support Women DJs for their 2025 partnership. We are thrilled to offer hands-on education and provide a space of connection for underrepresented voices in the club and EDM scenes!!
