When the Powell Skills USA competitors left to compete in the national competition in Atlanta, they left as contenders. When they returned to Powell, among them was one of only two national medal winners in Powell High School history.

Meisja McCrary, who had just finished her first year in Skills USA, took silver in the job interview event. Curtis Muecke and LeeAnne Phillips also put on a show at nationals, returning with eighth place finishes in basic health care skills and prepared speech.

Four local residents are in the running for an open seat on the Powell City Council.

A seat representing Ward 2 became vacant in June with the passing of longtime Councilman Floyd Young. Voters will choose a replacement in next year’s general election, but in the meantime, the remaining council members need to decide who will fill the seat through 2026.

The Powell Pioneers capped off a busy end to the season with five games over four days to secure another state tournament berth after a sweep of Evanston on Thursday. The Pioneers defeated Douglas 20-10 in a nine inning game Wednesday, won against Evanston 10-0 and 5-4 on Thursday before splitting with the Billings Blue Jays Saturday with a 9-5 win and a 15-4 loss.
