🚗 Kansas drivers, take note! Beginning July 1, new state law requires your license plate frame to leave your plate number, state name, expiration month, and decal color fully visible. Officers will issue warnings through January 1, 2027, before enforcement begins. Also, remember that license plate covers, even clear ones, are illegal in Kansas. Check your plate now to avoid problems later!

Confused about the new Kansas license plate frame law??

Beginning this week (July 1, 2026), Kansas law now prohibits license plate frames from covering any of the following information:

• The assigned alphanumeric registration number
• The state of issue
• The month of expiration on the decal sticker
• The color of the decal sticker

From now until January 1, 2027, there will be an educational period and only warnings may be issued.

Did you also know license plate covers (even if they are clear) are also illegal in Kansas?

Wondering why this matters? Keeping the information clearly visible:

• Helps identify vehicles involved in hit-and-run crashes.
• Assists in locating stolen vehicles.
• Makes it easier for witnesses to report suspicious or dangerous driving.
• Promotes accountability by ensuring license plates can be clearly read.
