🚨 WHAT HAPPENED AT THE PRESCOTT CITY COUNCIL MEETING?

Several major decisions were made during Tuesday's City Council meeting that could have long-term impacts on Prescott residents, taxpayers, growth, and development.

Among the key topics discussed:

▪️ The City approved moving forward with the acquisition of private property near Prescott Regional Airport, including the potential use of eminent domain if negotiations fail.

▪️ Council approved a tentative FY2027 budget of approximately $311.5 million, including discussions surrounding future property taxes, debt financing, public safety facilities, and major infrastructure projects.

▪️ Proposed City Charter amendments are moving forward that could significantly change how future development agreements, annexations, open space requirements, and city property purchases are handled.

▪️ New language being considered would require large annexations to preserve meaningful open space and could place new restrictions on development agreements that affect future growth.

▪️ Community members raised concerns about wildlife corridors, pronghorn migration routes, and the impact of continued development on local habitats.

These decisions will help shape the future of Prescott for decades to come.

Whether you support these changes or oppose them, it's important that residents stay informed and engaged.

COMMUNITY QUESTION:

Has Prescott's relationship with local businesses and residents changed in recent years?

As a local media organization, we spend a lot of time talking with business owners, employees, nonprofit leaders, volunteers, and residents throughout our community. One topic that seems to come up more frequently is the relationship between city leadership and the people who live, work, and invest in Prescott.

Some feel the city is moving in a positive direction and making difficult decisions necessary for growth. Others believe there has been a shift away from the community-focused relationships that helped make Prescott unique.

We've heard concerns ranging from workforce challenges and employee retention to communication with local businesses, event organizers, community partners, and longtime stakeholders. We've also heard praise for projects and improvements taking place throughout the city.

So we're asking:

• Do you feel city leadership is listening to residents and local businesses?
• Has communication between the city and the community improved or declined?
• What challenges do local businesses face when working with the city?
• What is the city doing well?
• What changes would you like to see moving forward?

We encourage respectful and constructive discussion. The goal is not to attack individuals, but to better understand the experiences and perspectives of those who call Prescott home.

Your feedback matters, and we hope this conversation can help identify both concerns and solutions that strengthen our community for everyone.
