The Dow Jones News Fund is a national foundation supported by Dow Jones, the Dow Jones Foundation and others in the news industry, which promotes careers in journalism in the digital age. Its vision is to cultivate robust news media, staffed by well-trained and innovative journalists who reflect America’s diversity and are dedicated to a free, strong and fair press. Since 1960, the Dow Jones News
Fund has offered paid summer internships to college students in newsrooms, in positions such as: general assignment and business reporters, interactive news editors, digital editors and, most recently, data journalists. In addition, the Fund provides signature one-week pre-internship residencies at leading journalism schools to enhance interns’ skills. More than 9,000 college students have participated in the News Fund’s nationally recognized internship programs, and have received $1,000 college scholarships from the Fund – amounting to more than $50,000 in scholarships in 2016. Among News Fund alumni are industry leaders, Pulitzer Prize winners, educators and countless practicing journalists. The Fund has also published career literature and offered workshops for high school students, teachers and college journalism professors. Donations to the Fund are tax-deductible and eligible for matching gifts programs.
