Alhamdulilah, kedua-duanya memberikan maklum balas positif serta menegaskan komitmen untuk mencari penyelesaian damai, seterusnya mematuhi perkara yang telah dipersetujui dalam Perjanjian Damai Kuala Lumpur.

Saya menegaskan pendirian Malaysia untuk melihat persahabatan dan gencatan senjata antara kedua-dua negara diperkukuh selaras persefahaman yang termeterai di Kuala Lumpur hujung bulan lalu. Saya juga menyatakan kesediaan Malaysia untuk terus memainkan peranan sebagai pemudah cara dalam merintis jalan damai ini.

I spoke with Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet and Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul to discuss the latest developments in the peace efforts following the recent incident along their shared border.

Both leaders provided positive feedback and reaffirmed their commitment to pursuing a peaceful resolution, in line with the understandings agreed under the Kuala Lumpur Peace Accord.

I reiterated Malaysia’s position that the friendship and ceasefire between both countries must be further strengthened in accordance with the agreement concluded in Kuala Lumpur last month. I also conveyed Malaysia’s readiness to continue playing our role as a facilitator in charting this path towards peace.

Both Prime Ministers expressed their appreciation for Malaysia’s stance and the responsibility we shoulder not only as ASEAN Chair, but also as a friend and close neighbour committed to regional peace.

May both nations continue to demonstrate the resolve and courage needed to restore stability along the border, for lasting peace in the region and the safety of their people.

Today, a ceasefire violation occurred involving the use of mortars and machine guns. Prime Minister Hun Manet and I convened an emergency online meeting, instructing our armed forces to exercise restraint and refrain from retaliation.

After the gunfire subsided, both sides accused each other of violating the ceasefire. Each party filed complaints to the Interim Observer Team (IOT), with Cambodia in particular making an urgent request for the IOT to conduct an on-site investigation.

To ensure integrity, transparency, neutrality, and credibility, I have submitted a proposal to the leadership of the Malaysian military, who currently chairs the ASEAN-member-led IOT team, to undertake two critical tasks:

1. Conduct ballistic forensics, as both countries use different types of ammunition.
2. Most importantly, inspect the sites where the shells landed to determine the origin and direction of fire whether it came from Cambodia towards Thailand or vice versa. Shell trajectories cannot be manipulated after impact.

Cambodian forces are properly preserving shell craters and creating favorable conditions for IOT observers to perform accurate forensic analysis and inspections. I hope the Thai side will demonstrate the same level of cooperation. Just as pure gold does not fear fire, any refusal to allow inspections by IOT observers would imply guilt on either side, Cambodia or Thailand.

Her Excellency Maly Socheata, Spokeswoman of the Ministry of National Defence of the Kingdom of Cambodia:

The Ministry of National Defence of Cambodia wishes to inform the general public, and both domestic and international media outlets that, Thai military forces initiated the attack against the Cambodian forces stationing at An Seh area, situated in An Seh village, Choam Ksan commune, Choam Ksan district, Preah Vihear province, at approximately from 11:52 AM until 12:46 PM, there were two rounds of firing:
• First round: 11:52 AM to 12:22 PM.
• Second round: 12:25 PM to 12:46 PM.

During the above occurrences initiated by the Thai side, the Cambodian forces did not retaliate at all. The Cambodian forces strictly adhered to the principle of maintaining maximum restraint and fully implemented the ceasefire agreement between Cambodia and Thailand, which entered into force at 24 hours (local time) on July 28, 2025. It is worth recalling that the ceasefire agreement, was reached in a special meeting held on July 28, 2025, in Putrajaya, through the direct efforts of President Donald J. Trump, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, and with active participation from the People's Republic of China. As of September 27, 2025, it has been 60 days since the ceasefire took effect.

The Ministry of National Defence wishes to clarify that, according to the report from the Cambodian forces at the frontline, the situation remained calm at the frontline from 12:46 PM to 6:30 PM. However, following the cessation of Thai shelling with many shots of mortar and small arms on Cambodian positions, it was reported that several buildings were damaged.

In the meantime, the Cambodian forces continue to monitor the situation with utmost caution and remain vigilant to the developments; and they are fully prepared to fulfill their duties in defending Cambodia's sovereignty, without compromise.

The Cambodian forces reaffirm their strong commitment to respecting and fully implementing the ceasefire agreement with Thailand, emphasizing the continuation of close cooperation at all levels, seeking genuine collaboration, to promote peace and stability between the two countries, and a swift return to normalcy. In this spirit, Cambodia urges Thailand to firmly respect and implement the ceasefire, in good faith and constructively.
