Today it's official, Archbishop Wilton Gregory is now the first Black American to hold the rank of Cardinal in the Roman Catholic Church and becomes a member of the College of Cardinals.

Gregory is known for his outspokenness on many issues challenging the church, Gregory said he was surprised about the promotion.

He made welcoming diversity to the church, including members of the LGBTQ community, one of his keystone missions.

Gregory, was archbishop of Washington, D.C., said that while he doesn't share President-elect
Joe Biden's view on abortion, he hopes to build a good relationship with him. Biden is the second Catholic elected as president.
"I want to begin whatever conversations ensue in a positive vein, rather than in an adversarial mode," Gregory said.

In 1963 George Wallace stood in front of Foster Auditorium to physically block the schools first 2 black students from enrolling in classes. Coach Saban said yesterday that he felt proud to march with his team from the Athletic Center to that same Auditorium.
Senior running back Najee Harris, who announced the march on Friday, walked just behind Saban while wearing a “Defend Black Lives” T-shirt. Other players held signs with messages such as “Black Lives Matter” and “Stand for something or fall for anything.” One member of the Crimson Tide held a sign that said on the front, “All lives can’t matter …,” and on the back, ” … Until Black lives matter.”
