FOREST PILE BURNING PLANNED: The Ochoco National Forest staff has begun pile burning, with work expected to continue through Nov. 28 as weather conditions allow. Forest officials use prescribed fires to help reduce overgrown vegetation to help protect local communities, infrastructure and natural resources from wildfires. Pile burning is planned on Forest Service land south of Big Summit Prairie, includng the 2024 Crazy Creek Fire area, the 2024 Rail Ridge Fire area and the 2024 Wiley Flat Fire area.
Those areas may close to the public for several days for public safety. Watch for warning signs along roads near all prescribed fire areas before and during burns.
Residents may experience smoke during the prescribed burns. For more detailed information about air quality, go to AirNow online or download the app. Forest officials also urge drivers to slow down and turn on headlights when encountering smoke on the road.
