I have been so M.I.A. enjoying my time with family and friends in California and finishing up the application process for school. I’m excited to announce I have been accepted to Oregon Health & Science University in Portland, Oregon to pursue a doctorate in nursing practice in midwifery! I am taking a break from my doula practice to dive deeply into these next steps in becoming a midwife. Thank you to all of the support from the families I’ve served and to the strong community of doulas and birth workers in Rhode Island for helping me reach this goal.

With that note, I am going to be retiring this account but feel free to follow my personal account for updates and more dog photos .fanucchi

I have been on a bit of a hiatus from doula work and have a few updates for the new year...

I spent two weeks of December driving from Providence to Arcata, CA. I drove through the south visiting many hot springs and beautiful corners of the country. I would like to acknowledge that lots of this time was spent on first people’s lands and in water sacred to these people. I am thankful for how good I am feeling after this drive and refreshed.

I will be in Humboldt County taking a break from doula work (unless anyone is looking for a postpartum doula and/or postpartum meal prepping, then I’m your doula!) I am applying to graduate programs to pursue my dream of becoming a Certified Nurse Midwife.

Samosa and I are wishing you the happiest New Year and are thankful to all of the families I served in 2018.

So thankful for my supportive friends 💕

my mom will have to confirm but I believe this was my first camping trip at two weeks... something I’d be shocked to hear as a postpartum doula but hey redwoods are healing.

NOURISHED POSTPARTUM CHALLENGE DAY 3 |

R E V I T A L I Z A T I O N

Doula work is care intensive and requires I hold space for families in a deep and meaningful way.

BUT - it also requires that I am constantly finding ways to make sure that I am nourished. I cannot give my best care when I am not taking care of myself.

Sometimes it is hard but some ways I try to refill my own cup is eating, getting rest, finding time to be with myself, taking epsom salt baths, and lastly gardening as evidence by this photo.

Putting my hands in the dirt feels so good. I love to be outside with my dog and just digging and pulling and picking my vegetables. I am transitioning some of my garden inside for winter so I can continue to get dirty.

NOURISHED POSTPARTUM CHALLENGE DAY 2 | a little late

F O O D

Food is so important postpartum but is often one of the first things that goes out the window. Making sure my families are fed is one of my biggest roles.

I love chopping, slicing, cooking, steaming, blending, and mixing to make eating just a little bit easier.

BUT my favorite tradition is starting a pot of broth when one of my families is in early labor that I cook until after the baby is born. Baby Day broth!

P H Y S I C A L H E A L I N G • DAY ONE OF THE NOURISHED POSTPARTUM CHALLENGE BY

As a doula I find ways to help my clients rest because I know that resting is one of the biggest keys to physical recovery.

Pictured here are some of the things you might find in my postpartum doula bag from left to right:

1. Arnica Remedy Oil - Arnica is a powerful plant that relieves bruises and eases muscle pain. I use this oil to rub into those sore muscles and bruises from labor and delivery.
2. Epsom salts. Perfect for sore muscles, encouraging circulation, and helping reduce swelling.
3. Nettles and comfrey for a nice herbal sitz bath from Farmacy Herbs
4. Nourishing Lavender Milk to help ease one’s nerves and regulate the nervous system through the gentle lavender scent
5. Dry brush! I keep this one on hand for my own personal use but has the benefits of stimulating the nervous system and increasing circulation-which can sometimes help wake you up during those sometimes long postpartum nights

Postpartum “craft” time! Yesterday’s prenatal was spent on postpartum. We created a postpartum plan and prepped the house which included making witchsicles (frozen pads with aloe & witch hazel for healing after the birth)
