Billy liked sad blues and big rock and roll. I remember hearing the title track "Tucumcari, New Mexico" for the first time and feeling so happy with how much energy was in that song. Billy had ideas and he simply did them! That song is a perfect example.

This is a great record that I absolutely recommend! It also helped introduce me to MOMR labelmates of his I still listen to today (been down with b a d r a b b i t s since "Stick Up Kids" days 😁) and it's been wonderful to see the label continue to grow over the years with some amazing and interesting releases! Support independent labels whenever you can!!

*With Billy's passing I'm not sure who is handling the sale of his other releases as I believe he did much of that himself. If anyone sees this and knows, please pass that info along. Thank you

I miss these fellas on the left. They both made me feel special and that I/we were part of something bigger.

We toured with Dave for years before he became famous. Sleeping on his friend's floors across several states. He was always so nice. I remember my last conversation with him vividly.

My heart hurts that I'll never have a conversation with Billy again. He taught me a lot. We laughed a lot. He, too, was never too cool.

Dave and Billy were simply hard-working musicians just trying to share their art with others. I have so much love for them both and I'm truly grateful we were friends.

In the episode with William Russell Wallace he talked about how frequently he played in Rhode Island and what is special about our scene here. We recalled the numerous venues he performed at both solo and with his band around the state. This was one of them.

Nobody likes a drummer (touring edition) 🥁 🙃

Shot of myself sitting in with The Wading Girl somewhere in the South I'm guessing. Too many shows and too many stages to always remember. At least I was hidden behind Josh's banjo...and not just a pole in a venue

For those that have toured a lot, you know that most of your time is spent not playing music. You find creative ways to fill days as you don't have a lot of money to spend. I walked a lot observing the architecture of cities. That's probably why I still love walking around cities a lot when I travel.

A lot of record store's used bins. A lot of coffee shops. A lot of free museums. A lot of sound checks. A lot of hoping people come. A lot of waiting.

I played a lot of shows with Billy Wallace. He was always a lot cooler than me. He had a bit of a swagger and a lot of people gravitated to him. We talked a lot. A lot about music and life and relationships.

We also spent a lot of time playing erotic photohunt when the dive bar we were at had it available. It was in fact no way erotic, a lot of disfigured people in swimwear. We excelled at this game and a lot of that can be credited to our teamwork. A lot of people would be vying for the photohunt trophy if there was one. Billy and I were the champions a lot of nights together.

This is a bit of a different episode. On Aug 12, 2026 my dear friend Billy Wallace took his life. He was such an incredible person, songwriter, and author who performed all across this nation. 

When I was first starting this podcast I recorded a short interview with Billy in his car outside of The Parlour in Providence, RI. I never released it. Now seems like a fitting time. He shared a bit about his journey and what Rhode Island meant to him. Billy was not from the Ocean State, but he toured here constantly and, as you'll hear, he believed this was the location he spent the most time for a place he never lived.

We spent so much time together and had so many conversations. I'm grateful I was able to have this conversation with him and document it. He was brilliant and I am so sad I will never be able to talk with him or play music with him again.
