Yesterday the Sailing For Veterans nonprofit organization proudly participated in the annual Wreaths Across America day in Provincetown and Gloucester. Cofounder Ryan Burnett was in Gloucester, and Board Member Nate Knight was in Provincetown. Each placed eight of the Wreaths Across America wreaths representing each branch of the United States military.

Sailing For Veterans Announces Free Therapeutic Sailing Initiative For Veterans -- Program Launches in Partnership with the VetsBoats Foundation Founded by Combat Veterans and Sailors Dedicated to Enriching Veterans' Lives

GLOUCESTER, Mass., Nov. 11, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- Sailing For Veterans today announced a new program that honors veterans with free day sails on the sailboat SV INDRA located in Gloucester, MA. Launching on Veterans Day, in partnership with VetsBoats, an all-volunteer 501c3 non-profit foundation headquartered in Sausalito, California, the program also operates out of historic Provincetown Harbor, hosting day sails and maritime memorial wreath toss ceremonies at the tip of Cape Cod in Provincetown, MA.

Sailing For Veterans empowers veterans and active-duty service members by providing free sailing experiences that promote a connection to nature and a renewed sense of camaraderie. Through time on the water, participants build teamwork, find peace and perspective, and discover the joy and adventure that sailing can bring—both on the day of the voyage and long beyond it.

The inspiration for Sailing For Veterans comes from Marine Lance Cpl. Jason K. Burnett, who died May 11, 2006 while serving during Operation Iraqi Freedom. Our determination to serve veterans comes from Jason's brother Ryan Burnett, who as a Gold Star Family member and a USMC veteran, cofounded Sailing For Veterans in his brother's honor along with Executive Director George Dratelis.

The real estate social media account Zillow Gone Wild featured the bright yellow and green house of the late Provincetown icon, Ronald “Ronny” Hazel, on Oct. 31.

Hazel was a “legend” in Provincetown, residents told the Cape Cod Times in May. He was the owner of Shop Therapy, a retail store that has been a staple of Provincetown since 1974. Hazel sold everything from tie-dyed T-shirts to tapestries, vintage postcards to tactical handcuffs, mini bongs to two-foot-tall hookahs, s*x toys to sterling silver.

Hazel passed away on May 25 and his house, known as “The Hazel House,” is now for sale for $4.8 million.

Provincetown Harbor was the spectacular location last Friday for the 2025 Sailing For Veterans Maritime Memorial Wreath Toss Ceremony. The event was held for US Army Air Corps Second Lieutenant Michael J. Biakis who was listed as KIA on January 19, 1945 when his B-24 Bomber "Little Lulu" failed to return to base and was lost over the North Sea. 80 years later the cousin of Michael was the VIP guest for a very moving and emotional day on Cape Cod Bay.
