How to do it:

Open Finder and locate your image.

The ultimate creator's trap: wanting to just make a quick video, but the second you pull out the main cameras, you overthink it and feel like it has to be a massive production. Even with over a decade of experience in video production, I still get in my own head about this.

My solution? Buy a new camera. 😂

I've been wanting something easy, small, and compact that isn't just an action cam for unique shots. Final Cut Pro just updated to 12.3, and it finally includes the feature we've all been waiting for: native auto-captions! Three years ago, I switched to DaVinci Resolve because it offered the robust collaboration and captioning tools that modern client work demands. When you have over a decade of video production experience, relying on clunky, third-party workarounds that don't feel native to the Apple ecosystem just slows down your workflow.

In this tutorial, I'll show you exactly how to generate, edit, and fully customize subtitles natively in FCP 12.3. You'll learn how to adjust the safe areas for vertical video and even swap the default text with your own custom title packs to match your brand perfectly.

We just wrapped up on location, and it sparked a great conversation in the truck. Sometimes clients will tell you they are ready for you to step in and do your thing, but when you get there, the groundwork isn't actually finished.

Instead of getting frustrated, use it as a teaching moment. Educate them on your workflow. Define exactly what needs to happen before you can do your best work. When you align your definitions of "ready," the whole process becomes frictionless.

Some days the work just doesn’t flow.
Some days you’re battling the season, your mood, or just the simple fact that being human is… a lot.

Early in my career in news, I learned a lesson I still lean on:
You won’t always get to tell the story you want to tell.
But you still tell it. You show up. You do the job.
And strangely, those reps make you stronger, even when the task isn’t glamorous or inspiring.

You can dislike the thing and still do the thing.
That’s real discipline. That’s real creativity.
