His music, especially later works like "Piano Concerto No. 2 in C Minor" and "Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini", required pianos with thicker strings and metal frames to withstand intense playing. This pushed piano makers to innovate, resulting in the powerful, resonant pianos we have today.

Rachmaninoff's legacy is not just in his compositions but also in how he expanded the piano's capabilities, inspiring generations of musicians and composers. He is especially known for his piano concerti and the piece for piano and orchestra titled Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini (1934).
