5 More Felonies Filed Against 51 Year Old Pullman Man Accused Of Child R**e And Molestation

January 8, 2026 Evan Ellis News

More charges have been filed against the 51 year old Pullman man accused of child r**e and molestation.

The Whitman County Prosecutor’s Office has added five felonies to their case against Eric Robins. The office on Thursday filed two more counts of 1st degree child r**e and 3 charges related to possessing child sexual abuse material. The new counts are on top of the initial charges of child r**e and molestation against Robins. Senior Deputy Prosecutor Tessa Scholl stated in court on Thursday that new video evidence discovered by Pullman Police Detectives led to the additional charges.

Robins was set to be arraigned Thursday. That proceeding was delayed to give Public Defender Steve Martonick time to review the new counts. Judge Roger Sandberg agreed with the prosecution on Thursday and increased Robins bond to 750,000 dollars. He was previously being held on 200,000 dollars bond on the initial two counts.

Robins was arrested by Pullman Police in late December for allegedly ra**ng and molesting a young girl. He has worked as a night custodian and Jefferson and Sunnyside Elementary Schools in Pullman since early 2022. The case doesn’t involve Pullman schools, students or any district operations.

Robins criminal history includes a 2002 conviction under an alias in Louisiana for aggravated assault with a firearm. In 2019 under his real name Robins pleaded guilty to misdemeanor assault in Moscow and spent four days in jail. In 1997 he was wanted on a military authority fugitive warrant in California.

Robins did pass his background check to work for the Pullman School District. That background check was run by the Washington Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction in Olympia. Pullman Schools Superintendent Dr. Bob Maxwell says that agency uses the Washington State Patrol and FBI databases for background checks. That process does involve fingerprints and Maxwell believes that Robins was fingerprinted. He tells Pullman Radio News that district officials are reviewing their background check protocols in light of this case.

If convicted Robins could spend the rest of his life in prison. He is now set to be arraigned on the 16th.

Robins has been placed on leave by the school district and is banned from Pullman Schools property and activities.

Bad Weather Delays Reopening Of Steptoe Butte State Park North Of Colfax

January 8, 2026 Evan Ellis News

Bad weather is causing another delay for reopening Steptoe Butte State Park North of Colfax.

The park has been closed since last February’s flood. Washington State Parks officials keep the butte closed through the spring since a repaving project was set to start in May.

Crews have repaved the road to the summit. That work was delayed by last summer’s strike by the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 302.

State officials in Olympia initially hoped to have Steptoe Butte back open in October. That reopening date has been delayed multiple times. The most recent reopening date was set for tomorrow. That’s now been pushed out due to recent flooding, wind damage and snow which has slowed the final work on park improvements. The Washington State Parks Department has reset the opening date to February 15th weather permitting.

It’s illegal to enter the park when it is closed. The Whitman County Sheriff’s Office cited five people for trespassing in Steptoe Butte State Park in November.

WSU Athletics Beats Deadline To Raise Money For New Video Board, Speakers & Interactive Lights For Gesa Field

January 8, 2026 Evan Ellis News

Washington State University Athletics beat the deadline to raise the money to move forward the first phase of improvements for Gesa Field.

Cougar Athletics raised over 10 million dollars for the project a week before the December 15th deadline which was set by the WSU Regents. The project will install a new video board inside Martin Stadium which is 30 feet wider than the current screen. The funding will also pay for new speakers and lights for Gesa Field which will interact with the video and audio. The new features will be ready for this fall’s Cougar football season. The old speakers and video board are so out of date that replacement parts aren’t available for those systems.

The next phase of Gesa Field improvements calls for new turf and video display boards to ring Martin Stadium. That project is scheduled to be complete before the 2027 Cougar football season.

Funding for the improvements is coming from private donations.

Pullman’s Indoor Public Pool Reopens Monday Under New Ownership & Management From SEL

January 8, 2026 Evan Ellis News

Pullman’s indoor public pool will be relaunched on Monday under the new ownership and management of Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories.

The Pullman based global company and its founder Dr. Ed Schweitzer and his wife Beatriz recently bought the aquatic center from the school district to save the public facility. The Schweitzer Family donated 2.5 million dollars to build the pool in 2000. It was owned by the Pullman School District and operated by the City of Pullman for a quarter century. In 2024 financial struggles began to surface regarding the local government facility. In March of last year, the Schweitzer’s and SEL offered to buy the pool. The deal was finalized last month. The Schweitzer’s and SEL each spent 2.5 million dollars to buy the indoor pool.

The facility is now called the Schweitzer Wellbeing Center. The center will re-open this Monday the 12th and continue to operate as a public pool. The pool has been closed since the deal was finalized late last month. SEL officials stated previously that they will be renovating the pool with safety upgrades and improved energy efficiency projects. The company also planned to expand pool hours.

To celebrate the grand reopening of what’s now the Schweitzer Wellbeing Center 25% off monthly memberships are being offered through March. You can find a link for membership information and daily passes here https://swcpullman.com/
