The Purchase men’s soccer team came into the match against SUNY Old Westbury, needing a win to keep their Skyline Conference playoff hopes alive. They won 4-2 in a matchup that was full of tension.

The Panthers entered the game needing two wins in their next two matches to stay alive and control their own destiny in the Skyline conference playoffs. The match kicked off in disaster for the Panthers, as miscommunication and poor defense helped Old Westbury score just two minutes in. By: Shaya Silberstein. On Senior Day, the Men’s soccer team faced off against the Sarah Lawrence Gryphons, winning 2-1.

Coming off two losses, the Panthers were looking to get back on track, as they started strong, taking most of the possession and shots in the first half. They started the scoring by a goal in the 19th minute, which was by Yahir Tafoya, and that would be the only score of the first half, as they outshot the Gryphons 6-1. By: Shaya Silberstein. On a windy night at Purchase, 95 attendees crowded into the gym, nervous and excited to watch the faceoff between the 11-6 Farmingdale State Rams and the 2-11 Purchase Panthers. Some people might have viewed it as a task too daunting, a devastating loss they didn’t want to witness. But Purchase fans always view it as an underdog story, and as the whistle blew, only time would tell if it turned out to be a victorious one.

Music pumped through the speakers of the Humanities theater, and the crowd went wild for the party that was about to ensue.

On Friday, Oct.17, Purchase put on a colorful, energetic and fun night in honor of National Coming Out Day. Out and Proud was the event name, and it featured artists and members of the LGBTQ+ community to put on a show like no other. This exciting event was put together in a collaboration between the Multicultural Center and James Young, alias “I.Den.T.T”.

“Pride is a great month, but we don’t get that the rest of the year. So, part of doing this is actually having queer joy spread not just one time a year.” Said Young.

On Monday at approximately 1:30 p.m., the University Police Department (UPD), as well as the Westchester County Police Department (WCPD), responded to reports of a threat in the areas surrounding Farside, Crossroads, and the Dining Hall.

All three buildings were evacuated promptly, and students were required to wait outside and away from the buildings. “I was walking back from dance class,” said Anthony LaVara, a residential assistant (RA) from Central and a senior arts management major. “My boss, the RC [residential coordinator] of Central, told me to stay as far away from the building as possible.”

Shortly after the evacuation, WCPD arrived on the scene with multiple squad cars and a Special Response Truck. Also present were members of the Hazardous Device Unit, a task force specialized in finding, assessing and disposing explosive devices, military ordinance or other highly hazardous materials such as chemicals or biological agents.

At approximately 11 p.m., about 30 students gathered outside near the clock tower. Zaid Aldarghme, a freshman creative writing major, organized the vigil and walk in support of Palestine with students focusing on unity and grief for Palestinian life. As well as to bring awareness to the anniversary of Oct. 7 2023, the day that Hamas killed about 1,200 people and 250 were taken hostage. Following this attack, Israel declared war on Hamas.

The goal was for students to walk in silence from 11 p.m. to midnight. At midnight, the plan was to break the silence and have students share their thoughts and feelings through speeches, writing, or poetry relating to the conflict in Gaza.

As students mingled before the silent walk began, University Police Department (UPD) warned three students of the rules pertaining to quiet hours. Video cameras were also spotted by students in the Student Services Building; claiming they were not there during the day. By: Sophia Pallozzi & Summer Tyler.
