213 years ago today, Perry’s fleet sailed from this harbor into the Battle of Lake Erie. Its return brought victory, wounded sailors, and a shared farewell to fallen officers from both sides.

Students returned to Put-in-Bay School this morning for the first day of the 2026–27 school year.

The first day comes as work continues on the major renovation of the school’s historic 1919 building.

Put-in-Bay School is on track to open on time for students Tuesday, September 1.

A former commander of the USS Lake Erie is coming to Put-in-Bay.

Capt. Darren McPherson, USN (Ret.), will be the featured guest Saturday during a special Perry birthday celebration at Perry’s Victory and International Peace Memorial.

A major leadership change is coming to Shores & Islands Ohio.

Eric Wobser will become CEO of both Shores & Islands Ohio and Greater Sandusky Partnership on September 1 as the organizations continue their planned integration. Larry Fletcher will transition from his leadership role after more than 20 years serving the region’s tourism industry.
