For DFS contests and leagues with daily lineups, being able to see how today's batters have fared against today's starters in the past can be an invaluable resource. Baseball-Reference's Stathead allows me to see this information quickly and create my own custom reports, and this daily matchups tool is one of my favorites. Here are yesterday's top batting performances in baseball, including every player that homered. Additional notes can be found below the chart. Thursday, June 3's Top Hitters Josh Donaldson and Salvador Perez both homered. Perez has been solid all year, while Donaldson had been scuffling until recently. Fantasy managers like myself really need Donaldson to get hot. Perez is up to 14 home runs on the season. Marlins pitcher Elieser Hernandez got hurt running the bases. It's officially time for the universal DH. Charlie Blackmon homered and is finally heating up for fantasy managers. He has a hit in five straight games, with two three-hit performances over that span. Andrew Vaughn was placed on the COVID-19 IL. Austin Meadows homered again on Thursday and now has five home runs in his last seven games. He also has four multiple-hit performances over that span and has raised his batting average from .215 to .244. Jesse Winker hit his 14th home run of the season on Thursday and is now batting .348 with 39 runs scored, 14 home runs, 31 RBI, and no stolen bases through 47 games. Fernando Tatis Jr. continues to hit home runs and thrive despite a shoulder that could seemingly pop out of place at any moment and now an oblique injury that he shrugged off. I tend to focus on FanDuel as my platform of choice, but we'll sprinkle in some DraftKings prices and advice, too. For most DFS contests, it's all about the price. You want to find those players who are going for less than what they are worth and pair them with studs who you believe will produce....

When it comes to overall rankings, I use them as a guide but not necessarily a firm rule. It's great to have the overall list, but I also pay attention to the positions and the roster and scoring settings for each league. The great thing about putting my rankings on FantasyPros is that I can update them and see the results in real time and also import them to the FantasyPros Draft Assistant, which I use for all of my drafts because it syncs to the live draft (so I don't have to do anything manually)....

Shortstop is one of the deeper positions in fantasy baseball in 2021. Maybe the deepest when all things are considered. We haven't always been able to say that. It wasn't that long ago that shortstop was shallow and fantasy managers have to overpay in auctions and drafts to make sure they were getting reliable production. Now, while the position is still a little top-heavy, there are startable middle infield options into the late teens and early 20s with ADPs around 150 or later....

Second base is thin in fantasy baseball this season. We're on the eve of the season, so you know that by now. You've been in the drafts. You've seen how quickly second base thins out. Most years, I try not to worry about specific positions, at least early in drafts. 2021 has been a little different. While I still try not to reach for players based on their position, I have had to keep my eye on second base this season....

I just finished tweaking the first cut of what I'm calling the MAYO projection system, which I've been working on for way too long. "MAYO" loosely stands for Making Analytics Your Own and is also a nod to how painfully manual this first attempt was. Mayo also happens to be what all of my close friends call me, so the name works on a number of levels....
