This is what I do it for. Building a community… and making sure my people eat (literally and figuratively). The fact that we happened to become friends all because I decided to buy his empanadas and make a video on them. That’s fate. Tehe. So proud of my friend Barry MERIENDA NYC 🧡

He’s always been a street vendor at Little Manila but had to make some upgrades for the Ilocos Empanada craze. When he was doing the empanadas, it was just an at-home pick up type of situation. But now, he’s back at Little Manila, outside of Buddha Bar, serving the empanadas, kwek-kwek, kikiam, and fishball (Filipino street food favorites) as well as melon juice and sago gulaman. Filled my house with Filipino art so that I’m always connected 🇵🇭✨

This year I spent my money and time looking for art to fill my home. But intentional art that would also fill my heart. Art that would remind me of my heritage and encourage my child to learn more about it. I definitely succeeded in that. As a full-blooded Filipina-American that is trying to learn Tagalog and is constantly reminding herself she’s Filipino enough… the art also heals apart of me that always felt incompetent. I don’t really care about anyone’s opinions about that because it’s my reality and ya’ll can’t change that.
