In the summer of 2005, Smith & Pledger dazzled us with uptempo trance classic ‘Northern Lights’, which quickly became a true label anthem. Over a decade later, Oliver Smith breathed new life into the track at Above & Beyond’s celebrations with a stadium-ready new edit that lit up the Gorge Amphitheatre.

A further nine years and hundreds of requests later, Olie’s ‘250 Mix’ of ‘Northern Lights’ is finally yours. Listen now on all platforms.

Debuted at The Gorge Amphitheatre during ABGT250 in 2017, ’s mix of Smith & Pledger’s ‘Northern Lights’ quickly became one of Olie’s most sought-after tracks, yet never got an official release. Sealed in the ‘Anjuna dungeon’ ever since, it’s now finally out in full, nine years later.

“One of the most distinct flavours of our Anjuna buffet, the enigmatic Michael Cassette has been on a roll on the label since his return in 2025 with his synth-heavy productions. We warmed to ‘United’ instantly, and following a studio day with Paavo in the snow in Finland (the first time they’d actually met in person) this clubbier take for Volume 17 took shape. After many years, this marks Michael’s first single release on Anjunabeats, having made his home originally on our deeper sister label.” - Above & Beyond

Before he was one-third of Above & Beyond, worked as a marketing director at Warner Records. There, he crossed paths with a brilliant musician and composer called William Orbit, and a firm friendship was formed.

Tony and William worked together on 1996 studio album ‘Pieces in a Modern Style’ – the lead single of which, an adaptation of Samuel Barber’s ‘Adagio For Strings’, cemented its place in dance history via a remix from Ferry Corsten.

In the years that followed, Tony began to pursue his own music with Above & Beyond, and William produced his own albums, alongside those of legendary artists like Madonna and Blur, but the two didn’t lose touch and was always willing to offer advice and guidance on the early days of Anjuna.

It may have taken until 2022 for their musical paths to cross once more, on this remix of Above & Beyond’s ‘Sun In Your Eyes’, but we’re very grateful that they did.

A wonderful person and incredible musician that will be dearly missed ❤️
