On this day in 2014, two wealthy fans paid $300,000 to eat lasagna with Bruce Springsteen at his house. Springsteen started off the annual Stand Up For Heroes event by playing an acoustic set, then offering the instrument to the highest bidder. When bidding reached $60,000, he threw in a guitar lesson, which someone offered $250,000 for. At this point, he offered up a lasagna dinner at his house, a ride around the block in the sidecar of his motorcycle and the shirt off his back. All the money went to the Bob Woodruff Foundations, which helps injured servicemen and their families when they return home.

On this day in 1970, the music world lost one of its most electrifying talents, Janis Joplin, at only 27 years old from an accidental overdose. At the time, she was in the middle of finishing her 2nd solo album, Pearl. It was released 3 months after her death and became her biggest commercial success. While her career was relatively short, she left behind a highly-influential legacy.

🎶 On September 22, 1985, the first-ever Farm Aid concert took place at Memorial Stadium in Champaign, IL, organized by Neil Young, Willie Nelson, and John Mellencamp to support struggling family farmers. 🌾

With legendary performances from Bob Dylan, Billy Joel, B.B. King, Loretta Lynn, and more, the star-studded event raised over $9 million and brought attention to the farming crisis caused by crushing mortgage debts.

Since then, Farm Aid has continued to fight for American family farmers. 🙌

In 1986, Bon Jovi released their breakthrough 3rd studio album, Slippery When Wet, featuring some of their biggest hits, including this song, 'Livin' on a Prayer' and 'You Give Love a Bad Name'. This album topped charts around the globe-including in the US, Australia, Canada, and Norway- and has since been certified 12x Platinum in the US.

On this day in 1975, guitarist Joan Jett and drummer Sandy West formed the first all-female rock band, The Runaways. During their career, the group released four studio albums and toured the US with Van Halen, Talking Heads, Cheap Trick, and more. Their popular songs included 'Cherry Bomb', 'Queens of Noise', and a cover of the Velvet Underground's 'Rock and Roll'.
