🎶 On September 22, 1985, the first-ever Farm Aid concert took place at Memorial Stadium in Champaign, IL, organized by Neil Young, Willie Nelson, and John Mellencamp to support struggling family farmers. 🌾

With legendary performances from Bob Dylan, Billy Joel, B.B. King, Loretta Lynn, and more, the star-studded event raised over $9 million and brought attention to the farming crisis caused by crushing mortgage debts.

Since then, Farm Aid has continued to fight for American family farmers. 🙌

While we say goodbye to "WPWQ The Oldies Superstation," rest assured that the same great tunes and vibes will continue. Keep an eye out for our page name change in October!

In 1986, Bon Jovi released their breakthrough 3rd studio album, Slippery When Wet, featuring some of their biggest hits, including this song, 'Livin' on a Prayer' and 'You Give Love a Bad Name'. This album topped charts around the globe-including in the US, Australia, Canada, and Norway- and has since been certified 12x Platinum in the US.

On this day in 1975, guitarist Joan Jett and drummer Sandy West formed the first all-female rock band, The Runaways. During their career, the group released four studio albums and toured the US with Van Halen, Talking Heads, Cheap Trick, and more. Their popular songs included 'Cherry Bomb', 'Queens of Noise', and a cover of the Velvet Underground's 'Rock and Roll'.

On this day in 1987, Guns N’ Roses unleashed their debut album, Appetite for Destruction that produced three hit singles – “Welcome To The Jungle,” “Paradise City” and “Sweet Child O’ Mine”. This album quickly rose to the top of the Billboard 200. It would eventually lead to over 18 million in US sales, making it the best-selling debut Long Play of all time in America.

In 1991, Bryan Adams began a record-breaking 16-week consecutive run at the top of the UK pop chart with this song, '(Everything I Do) I Do It For You', which also had a 7-week run at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and spent 18 consecutive weeks at the top of the European-wide chart.
