"May the kings of Tarshish and of distant shores bring tribute to him. May the kings of Sheba and Seba present him gifts. May all kings bow down to him and all nations serve him." Psalm 72:10-11
I love to travel. I think one of the most incredible inventions that humans have come up with is the airplane. The fact that I can get to the other side of the globe in less than a day is honestly amazing, and I think that it’s something that I often take for granted.
“May the kings of Tarshish and of distant shores bring tribute to him. May the kings of Sheba and Seba present him gifts. May all kings bow down to him and all nations serve him.”
Jesus was born to be the King of the WHOLE earth. Now, if we look at where these areas are on a map through 21st century eyes, we might think that they wouldn’t be that far apart, but put yourself in these Old Testament times. The main form of transportation was probably either a donkey, a camel, or your own two feet. The whole world seemed a lot bigger in these times than it does now, so the thought of the Messiah being for everyone on the earth probably seemed crazy.
Also, the Psalmist doesn’t just stop at the Messiah being for the whole world. He goes so far to say that Kings will worship and serve Him. Kings were some of the most respected people at this time, so if a king were bowing down to someone, you knew it was serious.
Jesus’ global purpose is just as alive today as it was when He was born. Every single soul on this earth was blessed by His birth whether they know it or not. Be a light to the nations today and be thankful that He came for those on every side of the globe because we would have no hope without that truth.
