Important Notice to Our Readers and Advertisers
After much consideration, The Valley Tribune will not publish an edition this week.
This decision was not made lightly. As many of you know, community newspapers across the nation continue to face rising operating, printing, and distribution costs. Taking a one-week pause is the only responsible option available to help ensure that The Valley Tribune remains a locally owned and operated newspaper serving Hall, Briscoe, and Motley Counties.
All advertisers scheduled for this week's edition will receive a full credit on their June bill.
Over the next several days, we will be implementing changes designed to improve both efficiency and service to our readers. Beginning next week, The Valley Tribune will be mailed from Memphis rather than our current distribution point. This change will allow subscribers throughout the Tri-County area to receive their newspapers on Thursdays, while out-of-area subscribers should receive their papers one to two days sooner than they currently do.
In addition, effective July 1, 2026, all past-due advertising and account balances will be subject to a finance charge of 1.5% per month or $10.00, whichever is greater. Subscription accounts that remain unpaid for more than 60 days past their renewal date will be canceled.
We understand this temporary interruption may be inconvenient, and for that we sincerely apologize. However, these changes are necessary to protect the future of your local newspaper.
I love this community and believe strongly that local journalism matters. My goal is not simply to keep The Valley Tribune operating, but to keep it locally owned and focused on the people, schools, businesses, churches, and organizations that make our communities special.
The reality is that without these changes, the only alternatives would be to sell the newspaper to a larger company that could not provide the same level of local coverage, or to close the newspaper altogether. Neither option is one I am willing to accept without first doing everything possible to preserve this community institution.
