A vs. B — Same Xena, two different 3D models.

I’ve been doing a lot of testing with 3D inner-glass engraving, and this was one comparison I really wanted to see for myself.

Both engravings started with the same photograph of Xena and were engraved on the same type of K9 crystal with my F2 Ultra UV. I also kept the size and positioning as close as possible so I could get a fair comparison.

A — CrystalPoint
B — xTool Studio AI

Both produced a good engraving, but side by side, there’s definitely a difference. A has noticeably more depth and definition, especially around Xena’s eyes, muzzle, ears and chest. B is still impressive, but has a different look and point distribution.

This is why I enjoy experimenting. I can try different techniques and programs to try to get the best results for my projects.

Okay… THIS just opened up a whole new level of inner-glass engraving for us!!

This is Xena, converted from a regular photo into a true 3D point-cloud model and engraved inside K9 crystal with my xTool F2 Ultra UV.

Not a flat image. The engraving actually has depth and dimension inside the glass. Turn the crystal and you can see the structure of her face from different angles.

This was my first run with this new 3D workflow, and while I already see a couple things I’ll fine-tune, the detail in her eyes, ears, muzzle and fur absolutely blew me away.

We’re just getting started and I know she is off center I didn’t adjust her right.

Some projects are just a little more special than others.

I took one of my favorite photos of me and my beautiful wife and engraved it directly onto a glass coaster with the xTool F2 Ultra UV.

Seeing the details of our faces come through on clear glass like this is pretty dang incredible. This one isn’t going anywhere—it belongs with us. 💍❤️

Some engravings are just really special and are a keepsake!

This is Xena, she is a black husky. She has been by my side through more than most people will ever know.

I chose not to add her name to the glass because I felt the portrait said enough on its own. Sometimes the simplest design has the most meaning.

Engraved on glass with the xTool F2 Ultra UV.

I’m still dialing in the settings, but I’m really happy with how this one turned out.
