Hess Love is a Hoodoo with the gift and blessing of the ancestors to carry our traditions in esteem and with protection to this generation and many more to come. Hoodoo is more than ritual; it’s a sacred refuge, a way of grounding ourselves in a world that feels unsteady and unjust. Drawing on the insights of Mojo Workin' by Katrina Hazzard-Donald, this talk delves into Hoodoo’s deep roots as a practice of resistance and reclamation. It invites us to return to the land, to the wisdom of our ancestors, and to the spiritual traditions that have always sustained us.

Hess Love is a Cultural Worker from Annapolis, Maryland. Their name honors Hester, the last woman in their family enslaved in the U.S., who was born, loved, enslaved, freed, and buried in Annapolis. Hester's legacy inspires Hess's work in advocacy, afro-ecology, and archival preservation. They are a hoodoo-mother-poet, Delmarva woodlands steward, and master naturalist.

Heartbreak is a tricky little thing brought on from, at the heart of all instances, a feeling of profound loss. Whether it stems from betrayal or the transition of a loved one to the other side, we all experience this feeling of things never being like they were before. While the pain is deep, heavy, & sometimes feel like it may never let up, there are tools we can work to bring ourselves gradually back home to our Selves. It’s so important to honor our uncomfortable feelings and rage as hard, cry as often, & allow space for release and joy as much as we need to. It’s ok to laugh while you’re grieving. It’s ok to take a cry break when grief overcomes us. It’s ok to curse a mthfka out who has us fkd up too. There is no good and bad. Things just are. And when I want to return to my happiness, my balance & wellness, I’m going to get real with myself and ask what part of me needed this experience. Usually it’s the part of me that thinks I’m impervious to the weapons formed against me of my own making. This last heartbreak was a DOOZY & I’m gathering my mimosa flowers, making a tincture, & taking a shot of the moonshine they’re soaking in and throwing on my favorite playlist to throw my ass in a circle and get the energy moving through and out my body for the moment. Hopefully the day & week too. So I’ll be hosting a free workshop on Saturday, July 13 at 11 am focusing on tools that can assist with grief, loss, & heartbreak support. RSVP link in bio ♥️🌹♥️

Everyone's journey in Spirit looks different. While there are some truths we accept as universal, no one has the scope to tell you your unique set of powerful, awesome, dimension-shifting skills. We don't all have the same destiny, balance formula, or spiritual makeup. You have to go within and commune with your dreams, the whispers that alert you, and the nudges of your ancestors in the ways that they come to you. BLOOM: A Mirror Work Intensive is a 12-week activation course for anyone interested in accessing their own deep secrets passed down through their bloodline. In the deep, hidden areas of the mind lies the revelations that we individually need to move through this hellscape into our real world. I make no promises of bliss and enlightenment. Good morning! Thank you for being here 4 years in a row! These conversations have been curated based on observations of the collective and the ways we continue to build on greatness day after day. Even when it's felt like a failure pie, we've done our best to show up for each other and ourselves in this shifting world. Let's talk about building elder communities with gentle care. Let's talk about putting together safe schools for these babies and for ourselves because Zora Neale-Hurston University is still a goal and dream. We can all bring our children and tend to the rooftop garden at Toni Morrison Luxury Dormitory, carpool them to Octavia Butler Primary School, and head to our business, communications, technology, law, agriculture, art, dance, military, and culinary classes all over campus. Let me get to putting this book together. Anyway, come dream up a new world like we like to do at the conference. Set the tone for our revolutionary activities all 2024 to reduce the sauce on this patriarchy by turning up the heat. Our collective work can concentrate on the circumstances we want to see in the world and make this whole thing change overnight. Let's discuss it. My docuseries was selected to be shown at Hot Docs during their Works in Progress session at the festival!! I get to pitch the film to some very cool people and get the feedback I need to keep moving through with positive direction. I’m so grateful and very excited! I can’t wait until all four episodes are completed and I can share a finished product with everyone.
