YZ Media we're your playground of consciousness 😎
📲 a media network created by zillennials for zillennials Those voices in chorus can affect outcomes. YZ!

we're on a mission to empower zillennials to get involved in their communities with more consciousness. The more YAPPERs pay attention to their surroundings, the more noise and posts they’ll make locally. Getting young voters to participate in local elections will help make policies more responsive to their unique needs. The data from these actions will be tabulated and made available to relevant

organizations and groups that want to reach zillennials. Media is a initiative under Young Americans Protest, a pending 501c4 social welfare organization.

TODAY on April 5, 2022 at 7PM, the City of Raleigh will be have a public hearing on the Wake BRT: Western Boulevard Corridor Study & CP-10-21 Amendments. Not only will this bus rapid transit plan endanger the well-being of many Black communities – Heritage Park, Kentwood, and Method Community (The oldest Black community in Raleigh), it will also impact the livelihoods of many Muslim and immigrant families and businesses in the community.

And yet, the City of Raleigh chooses to have this hearing on the fifth day of Ramadan, which prevents Muslims from actually participating in a hearing that will directly impact their lives.

🆘 TODAY AT 3PM at CHAVIS!!! 🆘

YAP! has been supporting the recall effort alongside other community organizations and it's time to make this happen!!!! We will make history in recalling Mayor and protecting our democracy. We can not stand by while our elected leaders go behind back doors and make illegal decisions that impact our democracy without even hearing one single resident.

💪 Don't let them fool you - they knew what they were doing and they didn't expect to be held accountable. It's time to take our city back from corrupt leadership and developers and become the Ethical Raleigh we all want for us and future generations to come!

We only have two days to get gov cooper to veto sb722!! Tune in at 8pm for an IG Live at .culture to learn about NC Senate Bill 722 and why MUST veto it. What's wrong with ? ⤵️

City Council added a last-minute power grab to S.B. 722 which undermines the will of Raleigh residents. At the behest of the Raleigh City Council, the bill's legislative sponsors added a surprise change that would permanently move Raleigh municipal elections to even-numbered years, alter the method of elections to a non-partisan plurality, and extend the terms of City Council members until November 2022. ANDDD all that without one single engagement with the public.

Pretty clear the Raleigh council violated the open meetings law to extend their terms and change the election schedule....

All of the Triangle's senators voted against delaying Raleigh’s election until November 2022 because of a lack of transparency.

“What I do have a problem with is the citizens of Raleigh haven’t had an opportunity to comment on any of this,” said Sen. Dan Blue. He said he wasn’t necessarily opposed to the proposed changes, but to the manner through which it came to the legislature.

From WRAL
"We have to realize elections are not about us [elected officials]. They're about the people who elect us," Blue said.

Raleigh is studying other changes to its municipal government, such as whether City Council members should have four-year terms instead of two years and whether the size of the council should be expanded, he said, and he worries that residents won't have a say in those changes, either.

From the N&O:
The public never got to see the vote, or the roughly hour-long discussion that led up to it June 1.

“The council provided direction to staff on the items listed on the closed-session motion,” said Raleigh Mayor Mary-Ann Baldwin, after the council members returned to the open portion of their meeting.

A public vote was not taken once the open session resumed June 1, nor a week later at a June 8 work session when the city attorney announced the city would pursue a state law change to permanently move the city council’s election to even years.
