Today marks the release of the final print edition of the semester, and my final edition as Editor in Chief. To celebrate the senior class, we highlighted active members on our campus that have contributed so much to our community over the past 4 years. I am incredibly proud of the Class of 2026 and all that we have accomplished together. It’s bittersweet to be leaving wonderland behind, but I cannot wait to see what the future has in store for each and every one of us.

I also want to extend a wholehearted thank you to my incredible team, The Herald would be nothing without you.

Make sure to pick up your own copy from one of the boxes on campus. Congrats Class of 20206!

“I am deeply saddened by the fact that more children and adults are falling off the reading track. Not only does reading help people learn, but it’s the first step in developing skills such as analysis, vocabulary, critical thinking, and more. Because of this, the exchange of ideas is weakened by the inability to read and critically understand information.”

“In a high-tech dominated world, many Gen Z are switching from smartphones to “dumbphones.” This trend started around 2023, with individuals ditching their smartphones to limit their screentime and get off of social media; some even declared a “dopamine detox” to give their brain a break from the highly addictive and highly stimulating usage of a smartphone.“

“The Seahawks weren’t the only big winners at the 2026 Superbowl, with Bad Bunny making history as the “first artist to perform a halftime show entirely in Spanish, as well as becoming the first Latin solo act to take on one of the world’s most coveted gigs,” according to The Independent.”

“The treatment of the characters strips the nuance from them, making it harder to empathize with them and their actions. The viewer’s perception of the characters feels unfairly influenced by Fennell’s direction, as if she’s telling you who to like and not like, as opposed to being able to make that choice for yourself.”

“It’s that time of year: the forecast says it will snow, but will it actually happen this time? As of Jan. 20, NOAA forecasts a 90% chance of precipitation and temperatures below freezing, meaning this could finally be the time that the Raleigh area sees significant snowfall.”

“Trust me when I say I am the last person to defend Victor Frankenstein, but I do think some of the redeeming qualities Shelley offers him create a complex character that opens up broad discussions surrounding monstrosity, personhood, ambition and more that’s lacking in Del Toro’s adaptation.”

“It is also worth noting the difficulties accessing mental health care, even for college students who have health services on campus. The Mental Health Coalition reports that ‘demand for counseling services is growing 5 times faster than average student enrollment’ and that factors like stigma and lack of knowledge about resources keep students from seeking help. They report that only a quarter of students who experience mental health challenges seek treatment.”
