URGENT — Community advocates are urging Raleigh residents to show up at tonight’s Raleigh City Council Public Comment Session, Tuesday, September 8, and demand a moratorium on data center development in Raleigh.

We previously broke the story that Radius DC was proposing a 100,000-square-foot data center at 3101 Jones Sausage Road in Southeast Raleigh, which was scheduled to come before City Council on August 18.

Following strong opposition from our community, the developer withdrew its annexation plans — though it says it still wants to move forward with the project.

Meanwhile, other Triangle communities are taking action. Apex and Holly Springs have approved pauses of up to 12 months, Durham County enacted a nine-month pause, and just last week, Cary City Council unanimously approved an 18-month pause after residents showed up and voiced their concerns.

Raleigh has yet to adopt a data-center pause.

Construction is underway at Rosewood, a new luxury apartment community on the corner of West South and South Saunders — across from the redevelopment of the Heritage Park affordable housing community.

Rosewood will bring 269 apartment homes with amenities including pool, sauna and cold plunge, rooftop terrace, and a hidden speakeasy. Ground floor will include 5500 sqft of retail space.

The project is led by Raleigh development company Blue Heron Asset Management with an anticipated finish date by end of 2027.

Volunteers Assemble! Help make a difference this September 11 — not only to remember, but to serve. ❤️

This Friday, September 11 at John Chavis Community Center — Activate Good will lead its annual 9/11 Day of Service & 25th Anniversary Remembrance Event, transforming a day of tragedy into a powerful day of unity, service, resilience, and hope.

The event will bring the community together for hands-on service projects supporting 25+ local nonprofits and schools, a Community Connections Fair, remarks from leaders including NC Governor Josh Stein, and opportunities to support critical needs across our community.

Volunteers are still needed, especially for the afternoon shift. Anyone ages 18+ as well as youth ages 8+ with adult supervision, are invited to help.

If you can’t make it Friday, there are 40+ additional service projects that will take place from Sept 11-13 throughout the Triangle.

To volunteer on Friday or any service project, please register at https://activategood.org/9-11-service-remembrance.

Share with anyone looking to volunteer and together, let’s make a difference in our communities.

The 2026 Tunnel to Towers Raleigh 9/11 Tower Climb takes place next Saturday, September 12 at the former Wells Fargo Building at 150 Fayetteville Street in downtown Raleigh. 🚒👨‍🚒

This year marks the 25th anniversary of September 11th, making this year's climb especially meaningful.

The event honors the 343 FDNY firefighters who lost their lives on 9/11, as well as the first responders and military members who continue to serve and sacrifice for our communities.

There will be members of the Durham Highway Fire Department with their fire truck, along with other first responders and supporters from throughout the area.

All are welcome to come climb, volunteer, donate, or simply show up and cheer everyone on.

We’d love to see everyone here to make sure we never forget the sacrifices made on September 11th.

Starting next Tuesday, September 8 — Lake Wheeler Road between Goode Street and Umstead Drive will be shut down for two [2] years as Raleigh’s builds it’s first ever Mario Kart track between the State Farmers Market and Dix Park. It’s-a-Go! 🏁🏎️💨

Ok, not really.

Rather, the closure is part of the City of Raleigh’s Lake Wheeler Road Improvement Project, a $20 million project to transform the current two-lane Lake Wheeler Road from South Saunders Street to Maywood Avenue into a “Complete Street".

A “Complete Street” aims to improve mobility and allow pedestrians, cyclists, drivers, and all modes of transportation to all use the street safely.

See map for detour routes.
