Heart Of The Arts with Roni Nicole family, thank you for spending part of your day with us and for listening with your whole hearts and ears. Your chat messages, DMs, and moments of reflection are the culture we’re building—together. 💛
Deep gratitude to our guest, —Raleigh-born, Durham-based poet, playwright, recording artist, educator, and cultural organizer. He’s the co-founder/managing director of Black Poetry Theatre, the 2023 Piedmont Laureate, and serves with Carolina Performing Arts as the Rothwell Mellon Program Director for Creative Futures. This season he’s NC State LIVE’s 2024–25 Artist-in-Residence. Across books, classrooms, and stages, his work holds the Black Southern experience with rigor, tenderness, and hip-hop’s living scholarship. Highlights include his poetry collections Shackled Freedom: Black Living in the Modern American South and Everything Worth Fighting For, plus the studio project Words, Rhythms, and Melodies.
