Next time you are in the Mt. Airy area, make it a point to stop into The Somm Closet. Just a block off Main Street, this is one of the most well curated shops I’ve seen. Nearly every country is represented, in a well-laid out space, and adjacent to a specialty store with cheeses and snacks. The owner, Manju Wagner, though small in stature, obviously has a huge passion for what she does. Tastings available every day, and themed tastings most Friday afternoons. Give her a follow, and stop in when you can! The Somm Closet

Bubbles, White, Red, Rose & everything wine... A palate for wines from around the world. Come taste and buy!

When I was driving up the 2.5 miles between the front gate of Dynamis Estate Wines and the tasting room, I clocked this guy in the field checking on the vines. So when I saw him come into the tasting area and my server handed him a beautiful Riedel glass of red wine, I wanted to know exactly what he was drinking. Dynamis was a huge, beautifully maintained and meticulously cultivated property. Not just vines, but fruit orchards, bee hives and expansive mowed fields. They are quite proud of what they are doing, and there is clearly an enormous amount of money behind it. That is lovely to look at, but for me, this man, Rosalino, was the real story. He’s not the man with the money. But he’s the man that the man with the money trusts with his vines. I immediately asked what he was drinking. When he is done with a day of work, what does he reach for? The Mountain. This blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot, Merlot and Cabernet Franc is made from the very best vines of each varietal, fermented on skin in a combination of stainless steel and French oak, and then aged 28 months in new French oak. The result is a dark and rich wine with earthy black fruit on the nose, and to***co and black cherry on the palate with refined tannins and a silky finish. Not an everyday wine at $130, but absolutely a gorgeous choice with a ribeye or duck for a special night.
