Fresh flavors are coming to Transfer Co. Food Hall. Previously announced Urban Olive is officially opening in the former Mama Crow's space Dec. 2. Dishing mod Mediterranean flair with deep family ties, the restaurant will showcase generational flavors—with contemporary spins—via kebabs and bowls and pitas feat. in-house meats (think chicken, beef and lamb shawarma), dips, falafel and sauces. Stay tuned for the full story in our December/January issue.

Here’s to a wildly successful Give Raleigh campaign! This year—in partnership with Cooper Charitable Foundation—we targeted the city’s most urgent issue: housing. Through generous donations; giveaways; an online auction; and events across Birdie’s Barroom & Kitchen, Moon Room, Kendra Scott and Dram & Draught, we were able to raise $59,090 (including a $10K match from TowneBank and Towne Insurance), which was then doubled by CCF namesake John Cooper—bringing the grand total to $118,180.

These funds will go directly to seven local nonprofits helping our neighbors find stability, security and hope. Thanks to everyone who showed up and supported the campaign this year! Thanks to you, we are making a huge impact on our community. 🤍

Both Gov. John Stein and Mayor Janet Cowell have confirmed Customs and Border Protection agents are now in Raleigh, and agents have allegedly been spotted in Southeast Raleigh and Cary this morning. How many agents and how much of the Triangle they will cover is still unclear.

The operation tails the department’s “Operation Charlotte’s Web” in Charlotte over the weekend, during which agents detained 130 people.

Stein called on CBP to focus on those with a history of violent crime. “Stop targeting people simply going about their lives because of the color of their skin, as you are doing in Charlotte,” he admonishes.

Meanwhile, Cowell emphasized RPD has not participated (and will not) in any immigration planning activities.

“As the capital city, it is important to us that everyone who lives, works, plays and learns in Raleigh feels safe,” she said in a statement. “…While the Raleigh Police Department is not involved in immigration enforcement, we are committed to protecting our residents and to following the law.”

Border Patrol agents have already conducted operations in Chicago and LA. Stay tuned for more information as the story develops.

Aw, shucks… it’s official. 🦪 We told you 42nd St. Oyster Bar was returning—now the deal is signed, sealed + delivered. Longtime GM Hunter Correll (who ran it for nearly 30 years) has teamed up with landlord John F. Holmes Jr. to buy the beloved icon outright, with a Feb. ’26 targeted debut on deck.

NC State students may have to cough up more tuition next year. The university’s Board of Trustees just unanimously approved a 3% increase beginning next fall—the first hike in nearly a decade—along with bumps to select fees and dining + housing rates. Here’s the breakdown:

💸 In-state undergrad: +$196
💸 Out-of-state undergrad: +$945
💸 In-state grad: +$307
💸 Out-of-state grad: +$946

The added revenue would fund more gen-ed seats, additional advisors and mental health support, faculty recruits, and increased benefits for grad students.

The move comes after the recent 3% increases at UNC, ECU and UNC Greensboro. Final approval now goes to the UNC Board of Governors. Stay tuned.
