In this program, videographer Marshall Beecher takes his cameras to multiple mainline crossings at the always busy Blue Island Junction. This location, most often distinguished by the big steel bridges spanning the Calumet Sag Channel, has a multitude of activity from host roads Indiana Harbor Belt, CSX, Canadian National and Metra's Rock Island District, which passes over the south end of the junction. Throw in a wide variety of pool power and the appearance of run-through moves by roads Canadian Pacific, Union Pacific and BNSF and you will see why Blue Island Junction is such a great Chicagoland hotspot.

We head to Chicago Heights, Illinois at Jay Tower. This location is the crossing of the Elgin, Joliet & Eastern and the Union Pacific/CSX. The variety of trains at this location makes it a favorite among many area railfans! Bright orange locomotives from the EJ&E, along with the high horsepower monsters from the UP and CSX thunder over the diamonds at Jay Tower. Our cameras were even treated to a couple appearances of the Union Pacific's Katy and MoPac Heritage Locomotives! If you like the sound of trains pounding diamonds, you will love this video!

We continue our look at Chicago area railroads. This time, we visit West Chicago in the years 2004-2006. Here, the Elgin Joliet & Eastern's West Chicago Tower at Turner Junction is still in operation as it protects the crossing with the Union Pacific's ex-Chicago & North Western Overland Route. Along with the EJ&E, numerous high horsepower Union Pacific trains pound the diamonds at Turner Junction. Metra also uses this route providing a flurry of activity. You will even see Union Pacific's Olympic and United Way locomotives heading up a mixed freight!

In this video, we visit the Tower B-12 Vicinity in Franklin Park. B-12 has seen many changes in the years and the action when this video was captured is just as exciting! Canadian Pacific, Metra, Indiana Harbor Belt and Canadian National are the regulars at B-12. Fallen Flag locomotives from the current railroads make frequent appearances including Soo Line and Illinois Central. Other railroads visit the B-12 area including CSX, Union Pacific, Norfolk Southern and Iowa Chicago & Eastern.

C. Vision visits west central Wisconsin to check out the action of a new short line created in 2004! The Wisconsin Northern Railroad, which is a division of Progressive Rail in Minnesota, operates the former Chicago, St. Paul, Minneapolis & Omaha line from Rice Lake to Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin and a portion of the former Soo Line main from Barron to Cameron. Two beautifully painted GP15-1's take charge of this line operating in a unique push-pull fashion.

C. Vision cameras follow the Ruebel Turn on the Twin Cities & Western's ex Milwaukee Road main line from Glencoe to Renville. On this line we follow two trains. One led with TC&W's GP-30 Cat #4300 and the other with a visiting Red River Valley & Western GP-15 Cat. This line runs through the heart of Minnesota's Corn Belt. Many small towns with classic grain elevators keep the Twin Cities & Western busy with grain movement along with a sugar beet factory in Renville.
The sister company of the TC&W is the Minnesota Prairie Line. This railroad runs on ex Minneapolis & St. Louis track from its connection with the TC&W at Cologne to Wood River. We follow the entire route as two GP-10's and another visiting Red River Valley & Western GP-20 Cat haul freight over the system. Along with the TC&W line, the Minnesota Prairie Line tracks run through many small towns and pass two restored M&St.L depots. You will love the sound of those GP-10's as they growl while climbing out of the Minnesota River valley at Morton!

C. Vision Productions takes you to the Mid South to view the Kansas City Southern and the Katy in the 1980's. From the 8-millimeter films of Fred Crissey, we start with the KCS. From the years 1987 and 1988, Fred captures this class one in the states of Kansas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Texas and Louisiana. Many trains are seen traversing scenic Rich Hill with locomotives wearing their white paint scheme. Burlington Northern locomotives show up frequently assisting on coal trains. Then it is back to Kansas and Oklahoma to see the last of the Missouri, Kansas, Texas. Also known as the Katy. Wearing its attractive green and yellow paint, you will see many Katy trains along with run through power including Union Pacific, Milwaukee Road and Soo Line locomotives. Fred captures the Katy from the years 1983 to 1988, just before Union Pacific took control. We even see a train from short line Kiamichi Railway

In this program, we begin by showing operations in Grand Island in 1979, when a tower controlled the diamond. We then capture the action in May 2010. Union Pacific keeps its double track main line busy with all types of freight, while the BNSF hauls mostly Powder River Basin coal trains on its route from Alliance to Lincoln, Nebraska. You will enjoy the exciting new locomotive power as it makes its way along this historic hotspot. There's never a dull moment, as several trains cross over and under each other simultaneously. Short line Nebraska Central is also captured as it operates the former U.P. branch line to Ord.

This former Rock Island route from St. Paul, MN to Mason City, IA is a part of the Union Pacific's line to Kansas City. Lots of U.P. action is captured on what is known as "The Spine Line" as the big yellow locomotives haul heavy freight and coal on this busy corridor. With footage captured in 2005 and 2013, many of UP's EMD's are seen, along with their big GE's. One of which is an original CNW unit prior to being patched or painted. Another highlight is a sand train being pulled by 3 ex Southern Pacific GE's! We even see a train passing what is now the only standing railroad tower left in the state of Minnesota.

C. Vision Productions continues its coverage on Minnesota’s main lines. Burlington Northern Santa Fe's Staples Subdivision runs from Minneapolis to Dilworth. This line is a part of BNSFs northern Transcontinental main from Chicago to the Pacific Northwest. C. Vision covered the east end of the Staples Sub in our program Fast Freight on the BNSFs Transcon and in this program, we tour the west end of the Staples Sub from the terminal in Dilworth to Staples. BNSFs variety of locomotive power and color schemes are well represented in this show.

With the recent donation of Electro Motive F40C #614 to the Illinois Rail Museum by Metra, C. Vision thought it would be a great time to look back at these one-of-a-kind six-axle beasts when they still earned their keep moving thousands of Chicago Area commuters on a daily basis. From the Video cameras of Marshall and William Beecher, this glimpse will feature video views of these unique commuter locomotives from the 1990’s to the early years of the 2000’s on Metra’s Milwaukee West and North operating Districts.
