Tanksounds

Tanksounds THE TANK is an acoustical marvel, a spiritually altering experience found nowhere else on earth.

A 65’ tall, 37’ across rusted steel water tank – never used – was discovered in Rangely, Colorado by sound artist and sonic thinker Bruce Odland in 1976. A small group of musicians and sound artists has been recording there ever since. The Tank Center for Sonic Arts is an organization of eclectic artists, sonic explorers, and practical minds who have come together to save and develop this magnific

ent acoustic resource. This growing organization seeks to introduce courageous performers and passionate listeners to THE TANK, to make the music recorded at the TANK available through the TANK CHANNEL, and to use the TANK as a way to bring the community of Rangely together with musicians and sound artists from around the world for education, cultural exchange, and performance.

Congratulations TANK alum Hainbach on his nomination for a Deutscher Filmpreis “Best Soundtrack” for the film Amrum!

Last year Hainbach and Simon Speiss released the album We Collide, We Shatter, We Grow, which they recorded in the Tank remotely from Berlin. Yes, remote from Berlin, in The TANK.

Another Tuesday and another longer-form post over at our Substack. Lots of stills and videos of how image and light projection has been used at The TANK, including: stills and video from Frisell & Morrison; B2 residents Gracie Fagan, Joel Ferst and Phu Le; two extraordinary videos of Packaging playing in The TANK; stills from artist Peter Erskine's solar spectrum prism installation in The TANK, and a little bit of didgeridoo from Dexter Payne*. Give it a whirl. Link in our bio or just https://tanksounds.substack.com/.

While you're there, subscribe to our Stack. You can do it for free, or for 8 bucks a month or 80 bucks a year. Fill The TANK!

* OK, I'm guessing that's Dexter Payne - can someone confirm?
