LONG POST BUT HOW OCTOBER WENT:
Late October was a blessed one for sure. Hookson got his first buck ever an it was archery. Proud of the little dude at age 12 getting after it. Not being afraid of those hikes in or out in the dark on the days I wasnt able to go with him. He got it done one evening at last light. Then it started raining an we found him in the dark 100 yrds away in the draw. Lighted nock helped us find him. He made a great shot on a hard quartering away. Dumping rain storm an soaked head to toe. A hunt we wont forget or his cousin that was with us. Awesome memories taking the kids out. I was more pumped for him this season then my own season an I ended up with my biggest archery buck few weeks later. Same situation last light an same tree stand an it was raining already. Im bummed about my shot but it got the job done. Back of lung/liver shot, he ducked my shot from 19 yrds at pretty steep angle quartering to us mostly. So tried tucking it in close in the front an he jumped the shot an turned. Hit him high up by spine an down thru him . Barley got lung but tore the liver up. Arrow was buried, just the nock an fletching sticking out. Same deal we track him an found him bedded in open feild but tall grass. Once again we found him by seeing the nock. We was soaked again head to toe. He went 400 some yrds an bedded. Longest night ever. Recovered him an the coyotes didnt get him which is amazing. I think the heavy rain fall helped with that. So many things run thru your mind on a bad shot. It happens, we are not perfect by any means. Glad Hudson was with on it all to experience the good an the bad of archery. Many thanks to God for the opportunitys we get to hunt an make memories together. So grab the kids an take them out on that late season doe hunt an make those memories.
PS we tried to get good footage this season but all our archery footage it just at last light an not very clear. The draw we hunted got dark earlier down in there than it actally was. We could post my hunt, it's ok but not great. Just didnt have any opportunity on morning hunts. How it goes I guess. We'll take it.
