Update: Adopted! ā¤ļø

At 16 years old (that’s about 83 in human years!), Locket has lived her whole life with one beloved person. When her owner had to move into assisted living, this sweet senior suddenly found herself without a family for the very first time. Thanks to our caring staff and volunteers, she’s safe and loved here, but what Locket really longs for is a cozy home and a person to call her own.

Locket is the very definition of a gentle soul. She adores affection and never misses a chance to lean in for chin rubs and soft pets, her little purr motor humming the whole time. While she’s slowed down with age, she still has a playful streak, especially if a string toy comes out! Mostly, she’s looking for what every cat deserves: a warm spot to nap, a kind hand to comfort her, and someone to share her golden years with.

Could you be Locket’s happily-ever-after?

Visit our Adoption Center today from 11am to 7pm or through this weekend from 11am-4pm to meet Locket! Questions? Reach out to us at [email protected] or call 603-772-2921 x 110.

2025 has not been too kind to this gorgeous girl… but we’re determined to make it right. šŸ¤Ž

Earlier this month, 10-year-old Ferber (ADOPTED!) was surrendered to us when her beloved owner passed away. The abrupt change in routine has understandably been a lot for this friendly little lady, who values snuggle time above all else. Our dedicated staff and volunteers work tirelessly to ensure every animal in our care feels safe and loved; but, no matter how hard we try, we know there’s no substitute for the warmth and comfort of Home. We’re certain this girl is longing for quiet, slow evenings spent snuggled up on the couch with her person.

Ferber has a whole lotta personality in her 30-pound body and is an absolute treat to be around. She’s a Beagle mix and does have some of those breed-specific tendencies (including an adorable little howl when she gets excited). She has a good amount of energy, and will greet you with a wagging tail and some adorable little hops when you approach her with a leash in hand. She would be a great adventure buddy—so long as you don’t forget that every adventure should be followed up with ample snuggle time. 🄰

Does Ferber sound like your kinda girl? Our team would love to introduce you to her! Stop by our Adoption Center at 104 Portsmouth Avenue in Stratham, NH between 11:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. any day except Wednesday (closed).

UPDATE: ALL of the finches have been adopted! Thank you so much for helping us get these cuties home! ā¤ We currently have 20 finches who have been waiting so very patiently for their new homes. Surrendered as part of a large group back in August, these delicate birds have been doing their best to adapt to shelter life... but the bustling environment has definitely been challenging for them. They’re eager to find quiet, caring homes where they can settle in and feel secure. ā™„ļø

Finches make wonderful companions for anyone seeking a relatively low-maintenance, peaceful pet. Their gentle songs and lively personalities will bring a soothing presence to any room, and they’re a joy to watch as they flit about and interact with one another. While not typically hands-on pets, finches form close bonds within their group and thrive in the company of other finches, making them ideal for bird lovers who appreciate observing their unique behaviors and social dynamics. For this reason, we require our finches to be adopted with at least one other finch friend.

If you’re ready to add a few feathered friends to your life, we'd be so appreciative if you would come by this weekend and give these cuties a chance.

Our Adoption Center is open from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. every day except Wednesdays (closed) and we are located at 104 Portsmouth Avenue in Stratham, NH. We hope to see you soon! Questions? Please email us at [email protected] or call (603) 772-2921 ext. 110.

Eclipse, 11, is searching for a safe and loving home. When this gentle lady's beloved companion passed away, Eclipse's family knew she wouldn't thrive as an only goat. They decided that the kindest thing they could do for her would be to surrender her to us. We promised them we would find her a new home that came complete with a calm, friendly goat or two.

Eclipse has a tender, social spirit and is always excited to greet our staff and volunteers. She never misses an opportunity to ask for a scratch, and has a just-happy-to-be-included type of attitude. She will, without a doubt, bring lots of sunshine and love to her new home. šŸ–¤

Do you think you could give Eclipse the retirement home she deserves? Come by the New Hampshire SPCA between 11:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. and meet her, or email [email protected] for more information.

Meet Griffin, the kindest buddy you will ever have! This 13-year-old, 15-hand Paint/Quarter Horse cross is searching for his forever home—and trust us, he’s as lovable as they come. šŸ¤Ž

Griffin is your classic "in your pocket" kind of guy who would do just about anything for a treat! šŸ˜‹ While he’s not currently under saddle (that we know of), his curious and adventurous spirit means the sky's the limit for what he can learn. Give him a moment to check things out, and this brave boy will take on any challenge—tarps, pool noodles, poles, you name it!

He loves to stick close to you, and his excellent manners make him a joy to work with. He even picks up all his hooves like a pro! Griffin would thrive with a family that can keep showing him the ropes and help him discover new things to conquer. Could that be you?

If this dude sounds like your next best friend, please email [email protected] for more information or stop by to meet him between 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. any day!

On Sunday, September 15, 2024, the New Hampshire SPCA took in 8 dogs and 9 cats from Jefferson Parish, Louisiana. This emergency transport was coordinated by Cathy Bissell and BISSELL Pet Foundation in the wake of Hurricane Francine. This transport accounted for just 17 of the 64 total animals that were transported to New Hampshire SPCA over the weekend. Add 13 local surrenders over that same span, and we now have more than 200 animals in care. The New Hampshire SPCA is asking for the support of our community to care for and adopt this large number of animals.

The pets on the flight were already homeless and awaiting adoption at Jefferson Protection and Animal Welfare Services (JPAWS) in Harvey, LA prior to Hurricane Francine’s landfall. This effort provides disaster relief to JPAWS, whose most critical need is space to take in pets displaced by the storm.

The timing of this transport was particularly challenging.

We were already expecting a transport of 19 animals from Texas on Saturday and the ASPCA needed us to take a transport of 11 cats and kittens on Sunday. We then learned that two NH shelters needed relief and were able to accept 9 cats, 3 rabbits and 1 dog from them. We also unexpectedly took in 4 Friesen horses from a rescue in Vermont. All told, 64 transport animals came through our doors on Saturday and Sunday in addition to 13 local surrenders, making for an exceptionally large intake for one weekend.

Here's are 3⃣ ways you can help:
āž” Make a monetary donation (remember that for every financial donation received this month, our dear friend Helen Brousseau is doubling it!): classy.org/give/598870/ #!/donation/checkout
āž” Purchase an item or two from our Wish Lists (our most pressing needs are wet kitten and cat food, but we can always use dog and puppy food, too!): nhspca.org/wish-list/
āž” Share this post!
