Each of the last two summers we’ve had the privilege of interviewing Councilmember Jamie Gauthier. Last summer we had the chance to go to City Hall and this summer she spoke with the civic engagement group here at West Philly HS. Absolute pleasure hearing from one of the city’s most dedicated and diligent city council representatives. Here she explains the chronic underfunding of the Philadelphia School District. Violence is down across the country since last year. Unfortunately in Philly and other major cities, youth violence is up. It’s a hard conversation to have but we need to look at more direct solutions to helping youth stay out of harms way.
