Engine restoration – A less-than-stellar paint job on the engine – when it was in Pennsylvania, prior to making the trip to Red Bay – has resulted in a need to have the engine repainted now at Red Bay’s Railway Park. This time the work is being done by the same crew – 3B Painting of Talladega, Ala. – who painted the caboose at the park, and that paint job has held up well. The team of Joshua Lackey Sr., Joshua Lackey, Jr., and Robert Lackey expect the work to take about two weeks. In these photos, Robert Lackey works on sanding old paint atop the engine, while Joshua Jr. works up on the side of the tank and Joshua Sr. works on the ground. Joshua Sr. said he and the crew were having to strip off rust, grease, the bad paint and other buildup before beginning the repaint job. This work is being funded privately; no taxpayer dollars are involved. News photo/Jason Collum
