The Lakeshore News is published and distributed weekly on Wednesdays to over 100 locations throughout the region.

Here are the unofficial results of the 2025 election in Wayne, Cayuga, and Oswego Counties! Due to the write-in campaigns we’ve seen in some towns and villages, we will not run a full ballot of the 2025 election results until every write-in candidate is verified by our local board of elections. Again, these results are unofficial and the final results will be available both on this page and in a future edition of Lakeshore News.

Good afternoon!

Unfortunately, the window to submit a letter to the editor endorsing a candidate or asking for community votes in an election has closed.

However it is not too late to run your message seeking support in the Shopper! Feel free to call 315-754-6229 or email [email protected] to advertise ahead of the election.

Good luck to all candidates!

10/20/2025

Good afternoon, everybody!

Well, the next issue after the paper we are currently working on is the Oct. 29 issue. If you are a candidate running for office locally, or if you are supporting a candidate for office, the Oct. 29 issue will be your last chance to submit a letter to the editor or an advertisement for the Lakeshore News.

However, there is still time to send an advertisement over to the Shopper.

Whichever route you choose, feel free to email your letter to [email protected] or drop off your letter to the editor in person at our office located at 6784 Main St., Red Creek, if you prefer “snail mail.” If you want to place an ad in the Lakeshore News or Shopper, you can come to our office, email [email protected], or call 315-754-6229.

Good luck to all candidates seeking office on Nov. 4!

10/07/2025

Hey, hey, guess what?! There are only four weeks or so left until Election Day.

We have elections in the Towns of Sterling, Victory, Ira, Cato, Conquest, Hannibal, Wolcott, Butler, Savannah, Galen, Lyons and Sodus to look forward to, plus elections at the county level of our three county readership area and in the Villages of Red Creek, Sodus and Sodus Point.

If you would like to send a letter endorsing a candidate or if you are a candidate running for office, feel free to send your editorials to [email protected] or drop it off at our office at 6784 Main St., Red Creek.

If you’d rather advertise for your campaign or candidate, you can come by our office or call 315-754-6229 or email [email protected] for specifics on the ad.

Other services we offer are yard signs, posters, and flyers, so you can come see us if you want one made!

Either way, we’d love to do business with you as the busy season approaches!

Hello readers!

Well, Lakeshore News is working on a story about how one doesn’t need to dive into a nursery rhyme to find butchers, bakers, and candlestick makers in Lakeshore News’ readership area. Some of these butchers operate from their family farm. Some of these bakers either own their own bakeries, ship their creations to local stores, or operate from little farm stands. Lastly, local candlestick makers sell their candles for a plethora of other products. That said, how do you feel about these entrepreneurs in the area? Are they welcome additions to your community?

Hello readers! Well, Lakeshore News is reporting on a slight uptick in cannabis themed business. As you saw in the Shopper recently, the Coughie Shop in Wolcott is about to celebrate its grand opening as the first true retail dispensary in the paper’s readership area, but there has also been a lot of microbusiness licenses issued by the New York State Office of Cannabis Management (OCM) in the area, including three Lyons businesses and Victory Road Farms in Red Creek. A Savannah business also has a dispensary license, and a business in Sodus also is waiting on OCM approval to open as a dispensary. OCM has also issued distrbutor licenses and processor licenses, among others, to local businesses. Keep in mind, not all of these businesses sell straight up ma*****na. Others sell cannabis oils, waxes, tinctures, and other solutions. All that said, we want to hear from you about whether you think this uptick in cannabis businesses is good, bad, or indifferent. If you’ve had your own positive or negative experience with cannabis products your ideas are also welcome.

Good afternoon everybody! We at Lakeshore News wanted to give parents, students, teachers, faculty and staff a chance to comment on local school districts’ policies involving cellphones for the 2025-2026 school year following Gov. Hochul’s state law.

Here’s a snapshot of some of these policies.
So far, Hannibal, North Rose-Wolcott, Red Creek, Lyons, and Sodus have shared their policies, which restrict the use of cellphones, smartwatches, and other Internet-enabled devices on school grounds in all hours of the school day.

Exceptions at these five schools include teacher/principal approval, medical/emergency/translation needs, IEP or 504 plans.

Parents or caregivers may contact students

Hannibal and NR-W’s plans state that students who violate the policy won’t be suspended. Lyons students also will not be suspended for violations but discipline may escalate based on repeat offenses.

Red Creek’s and Sodus’ plans state that may face penalties based on the district’s code of conduct with progressive or restorative discipline for repeat offenses.

Storage options include lockers at Hannibal, Red Creek, NR-W, and Lyons; cubbies at Sodus; lockboxes in Lyons; bins and the main offices at NR-W; and other secure areas.

Leave a comment offering your opinion on cellphones in schools based on the policies and rules you see in this post. We will accept responses through Monday at 10 a.m. Thank you!

06/24/2025

We at Lakeshore News have been seeing a lot of posts about pride for our communities and would love it if you would want to share them in the form of a letter to the editor! You can email us at [email protected] or drop it off in person to our office at 6784 Main St., Red Creek.

The results are in for the school board and budget votes! The budgets for the 2025-2026 school year were approved at all seven districts of Lakeshore News’ readership area, while all propositions on local ballots passed.

Here are the winning candidates from the school board elections. Incumbents won in most elections; however, some incumbents were unseated.
Cato-Meridian: Timothy Hulbert, Kristin Cox, and Amanda Vallee
Hannibal: Meghan Welling, Jessica Wakefield, and Christopher Long
North Rose-Wolcott: Tina Reed
Red Creek: Stephanie Kaiser and Nancy Henner Dingman
Clyde-Savannah: Jennifer Sullivan, Jason Buisch, and Tiffany Garofono
Lyons: Lisa Stone and Mark Bookmiller
Sodus: Jason Walters and Jeff Martinez

Read all about the results in the Lakeshore News, which will be out today!

05/06/2025

As we get closer to board and budget votes on May 20, please be aware that the upcoming May 14 issue is your last chance to submit a letter to the editor if you are a candidate for school board or if you are endorsing a candidate.

04/29/2025

Our last issue of April will be out tomorrow, and that can only mean one thing: May will soon be here! May is definitely going to be a busy season with school board and budget votes, which are planned for May 20. If you are a candidate in the seven districts our newspaper covers—North Rose-Wolcott (NR-W), Red Creek, Clyde-Savannah, Lyons, Sodus, Cato-Meridian, and Hannibal—feel free to submit a letter to the editor, 500 words or less. We also will accept letters to the editor from area residents backing a candidate or administrators encouraging district residents to approve the budget. Again, these are 500 words or less.

If you missed out for the April 30 edition, don’t worry, we will still accept letters for the May 7 and May 14 editions, but the May 14 paper will be your last chance to send a letter to the editor regarding board and budget votes ahead of the election. Come over to our office at 6784 Main St., Red Creek, to drop off your letter, or, if you prefer email over “snail mail,” ship it over to [email protected]. Good luck to all candidates!

In this issue of Lakeshore News, we are paying tribute to the one, the only Don Hartley, the man responsible for leading the Red Creek Mules men’s soccer team to six state championships. Read along with us as we pay tribute to a man described as a pillar of the Red Creek community. To dive into the story of this celebrated sports figure, you can purchase our paper—out now—at plenty of locations in Wayne and Cayuga Counties, including the Pit Stop locations in Red Creek and North Victory, Bayside Grocery in Fair Haven, and the 104 Store.

Due to space constraints, we could not hear from every one of Coach Hartley’s players to help us tell the story of his illustrious career and legacy. If you have a Coach Hartley story you want to share, you are welcome to send a letter to the editor (500 words or less) describing the impact he had on you, whether you played for him or against him or never played a sport. Friends of Coach Hartley are also welcome to share a letter to the editor. You can send your letter by email to [email protected] or drop it off to our office located at 6784 Main St., Red Creek. Again, all are welcome to join us as we remember Coach Hartley.
