Red Lodge Community Relief Kitchen

The Beartooth Elks Lodge with Chef Barrie has received a generous donation to start a RL Community Relief Kitchen to feed displaced persons, volunteers, and front-line workers during this time. We should be up and running by tonight. We are looking for volunteers from within our lodge or friends of lodge members to help and need kitchen help at this time. If you would like to help please text Chef Barrie at (406) 640-2893 or Tera Reynolds - Coal Creek Realty at (406) 425-3913 or leave a message at the Elks Lodge at (406) 446-1812. Thank you for such an amazing outpouring to our community at this time.

My podcast was created to bring awareness to local issues! Boy, did I pick a hot one for my first show. It is important for me to not make this page one sided and it's important to let dispensary owners have a voice here if they are willing to join this community conversation, on this platform. I met with Mike Keyes for over 3 hours today. He answered every single one of my questions and shed light on some of my own misconceptions about ma*****na dispensaries. It was enlightening and no matter our differences of opinion, which there weren't many, he answered every question that I had and then some. I would encourage everyone to give Mike a call and meet with him or visit his store.

I would like to tell you some of the things I was surprised to find out. *Dispensaries are over the top regulated *Since it is a cash business, their money is taken out of store *The employees are super educated and knowledgeable about their product *They employee 8 employees and will employ more and pay above min. wage. *There is hardly any smell of w**d and it was contained in the store. I wouldn't even know it was a ma*****na dispensary unless I knew what I was looking for. *Product has to be taken off the shelves EVERY night and kept in a separate secured room and safe.

City Council Agenda is up on the city website, here's the link. The 500 ft. to a school, including daycare facilities and preschools from property line to property line was changed to 100 ft. on a different street for ma*****na dispensaries by the mayor after the city council consensus agreement was 500 ft. at last city council meeting.

Interesting conversation going on around social media right now.

What are your thoughts?

My poll on RL Buzz was flagged by FB for deletion as it was seen as a political or social issue. In hindsight, it wasn't very well thought out as anyone (member or not) could vote and people were adding their own subtexts. I didn't delete it because it wasn't "going my way", I am actively trying to educate myself on this issue. There is no political spin on what I was trying to bring an awareness to an issue I was also in the dark about. I was just curious to see how many people were for or against since I just learned of this last week. We've had many people try to post on RL Buzz about this issue in the past month, but I personally didn't approve the posts because I was confused about what they were talking about as I thought the Ma*****na Dispensaries were zoned already. My confusion came because I didn't know that the downtown zone was an option and I thought it would be a voting issue for the community. I've probably worded things wrong and upset some people, but I honestly want to know how people feel about Ma*****na Dispensaries in our downtown historic district. We voted for it to be in our state and by a very large percentage in Carbon County. I am learning the laws and I hope this podcast can shed light on current issues we are dealing with. I have not yet formed an opinion because I do not have all the information in front of me, but I did vote to legalize ma*****na when it came up to vote on.

Our first podcast is gathering information for Ma*****na Dispensaries allowed in downtown RL. It has come to our attention some members of RL City Council has pushed through an agenda for Ma*****na Dispensaries to be on main street (Zone C4) instead of the Zones CN3 and C35 (North and South Entrances) that are already permitted. As this seems inevitable, what zoning regulations are we, as a community comfortable with? RL City Code as written permits a store a minimum of 300 feet from the boundary of a lot or parcel that contains a church, public or private school, public park, a Sexually Orientated Business, or another Ma*****na Dispensary. State Montana Code is 500 feet. If a Ma*****na Dispensary goes downtown, for example, are we okay with the store being across from the skate park, the Beartooth Children's Center, Boys and Girls Club, etc. even if it's on a different block? Are we okay with two Ma*****na Dispensaries in our historic downtown?

We are just gathering information and will be reaching out to City Council/Mayor, businesses, groups, and dispensary owners next week for our podcast.
