HOW MUCH FUN WAS THAT TO VISIT AND BY-THE-WAY, PICK SO MUCH KNAPWEED? Thank you to everyone that came out and especially to Doug Reynolds for teaching us many things while pulling. There's always something more to learn out there in the field!
-------------------------
We LOVE Van D**e Park and we're hoping many will join us to clear out some invasive knapweed. The thinking is...with all the rain we're due this weekend, pulling will be easy-peasy on Monday. See flyer for details.

Just knowing there's a community of donors that will hear your ideas and possibly award a grant to help fund a goal or a dream is what inspired us to first propose the Whistler Observatory in November of 2021. Hero's was fortunate enough to have received a second community grant this week for the purpose of improving viewing conditions to the North of the observatory caused by light pollution.

If you've never attempted making something better for the community because it seemed too big or unimportant, or someone will think it foolish, or you're thinking someone else will take care of it, you need to think again. Proposing any community project or service, big or small that your organization has dreamed of may have greater impact than you know. RLACF is there to listen and advise. It's a great place to share your ideas and possibly get help making those dreams come true - especially with a boost of Community Grant Funds! We at Hero's are SO GRATEFUL!

Here's what happens when the Moon Mountaineers interview local NASA Expert, Sierra Luoma. Thank you, Sierra, for all your help with the Artemis ROADS III program at Hero's this school year!

Cheers to Moon Mountaineers and Team Cygnus that participated in NESSP's Artemis ROADS III in-person HUB event at MSU in Bozeman yesterday. They've been working on their Artemis Mission Objectives through the school year at Hero's afterschool. They did Red Lodge and Carbon County proud with Mountaineers receiving an "overall above and beyond" recognition and Team Cygnus recognized for their excellent team work and troubleshooting capabilities. Thanks NESSP, MSU, MLC, volunteers, parents, NASA Experts and all that helped bring these teams closer to their final submissions (due May 30). We're counting on NASA funding for this next year!

Great Night, First Light! Congratulations and thanks to Jeremy Battles, the LG24GT Dobsonian Scope was successfully sky-aligned for its first time last night bringing it into full service (First Light)! It was trained on Messier 81 (Bode's Galaxy) and Messier 82 (Cigar Galaxy). We also explored the SeeStar scope thanks to Tom C. and found things that were not as easily visible without its collection and processing capabilities (black eye galaxy). More bonuses last night with many special visitors sharing their expertise. Thank you, everyone that made Friday the 2nd at the WO so special.

A place for learning by creating

Hero’s STEAM Engine is the combination of a space, tools, and knowledge.

The space is a former science classroom in the Roosevelt Center, a repurposed school building in Red Lodge, Montana.

The tools are primarily on loan from the collection of Ken Whistler, a retired engineer.

The knowledge comes from anyone who has something to teach to the community. Often, the best way to learn something is by making something.
