Right after sunrise, I survey the water lilies. How many blooms will come out to play today? This morning, I spotted a dragonfly’s nymph skin on one of the lilies. The bloom was not a perch but a dragonfly launching pad. Throughout the rest of the day, I remain vigilant and alert, watching to see if I can spot more dragonflies, butterflies, or any other bugs and critters using the blooms as a perch or launching pad. It is amazing to see the wonders of God’s creation even in the little things, like the bugs and flowers thriving off each other.

Each day, I eagerly await nature’s mysterious choice. A marvel I never tire of experiencing. Will today be one bud? or will it be five buds that bloom into glorious yellow water lilies? It’s like guilt free gambling as all it cost us a little time, which is never actually wasted as every moment in nature is precious.
My morning begins with the buds slow unfurling, a rather slow process that even a snail could outpace if it were a race. I am then graced with the marvelous view of the lilies for but a few hours. For by 3pm they begin to retreat to hide in their buds once again. So with joy and anticipation I patiently wait for the new day to see how many blooming buds I will be blessed to experience.

One of the thrills of spring... Lightning bugs... it is warm and humid tonight, and little streaks of lights in the evening will make you smile with wonder and amazement.

I was excited to discover a hole in my old Vitex tree. What could it be? What critter could create a nearly perfect round hole? I wondered how deep is that hole? Should I stick my finger in it? Then said to myself, “No, you live in Texas, everything here sticks ya, bites ya, or scratches ya.” I did get closer wondering if I would see anything inside... and I did. Inside the hole was the top of a feathered head of a Downy woodpecker.
