As the season soon comes to an end, we wanted to take the time to say just how proud we are of Kayden and everything she has accomplished over the last 6 years she has been involved in dirt track racing. She has made so many new friends along the way, younger and older. Everyone who meets her, loves her and respects her as a young woman driver. We have heard time and time again throughout the years that she is a great, clean driver and they would race with her anyday or anytime. This is the image she has tried so hard to create for herself. This is her legacy!
With that being said, Kayden has decided to take a break from racing, for the time being, to focus on her college academics. This does not mean she will never race again, but will definitely not be racing as much. To fill in until the time comes for her to return, I, her father, will be running the Modified and/or SportMod in her place. So stay tuned as there is still more to come from DTP!

Even though Kayden Petty is off from racing today, we still wanted to wish our racing families and friends safe travels and goodluck!

How about some bonus in car footage from the B-Main at HOT Friday night.

Unfortunately, I don't have footage of the heat or feature due to me forgetting to turn the cameras on. 🤦

Here's the video from this past Friday at HOT.

Had a great night at HOT running with the STIMS!!!

Kayden started 2nd in her heat. She quickly jumped out to the lead before getting doored in the middle of turn 1, knocking her loose and getting pushed back to 2nd. She was running so damn good, had a big gap between her and 3rd place, until the last lap the power steering belt snapped coming out of turn 2. She limped it around to still finish 4th. We thought she made the last transfer spot to the A- Main only to find out only the top three in each heat transferred. After being towed off the track and back to our pit, we literally had about 10 minutes to find someone who had an extra one we could use, get it installed and her back out for the B-Main. Took all three of us (Myself, Kenneth & Kayden) but we did it with seconds to spare. She pulled up to the chute as the cars were going onto the track. She started 2nd in the B-Main #2 and finished in the final transfer spot, 4th. The car was a little loose, as we didn't have time to do a setup change with the time constraint, but she still wheeled the hell out of it!! This put her starting dead last (20th) in the Feature. Kenneth and I made some changes to the car and sent her out. She did the best she could but overall finished 16th.
I will get the video edited and posted in the next few days.

Finally finished editing the video of Kayden's last race from HOT with the TOMS. She was not too happy with how she did either. She knows she made mistakes and feels she did not drive to the best of her abilities. She has watched this video several times and has had the same reaction each time...."ugh, I hate that I did so bad! That's not me and I don't know why I kept making the same mistake over and over."
Well Babygirl, mistakes are an important part of learning and growing. It's how you respond to them is what allows you to become a better person in life. This is just one race and it definitely does not define who you are or are meant to be!

I know we are behind in posting Kayden's last race video. Things have been crazy here at the Petty house lately. We are trying to get her Financial Aid and driver's license finalized before she goes off to college in 5 weeks. So please be patient with us. I will get it done in the next few days.

Kayden's new hero cards for the year. We think they look awesome!

It's been several years since I have wheeled a race car. Despite the seat being 2 sizes too small, my knees shoved into the dash/steering wheel and the car being scaled for Kayden who is 80lbs lighter, I think I held my own. Did I make it out of the heat straight to the Feature? Definitely not. Did I make a transfer spot of the B Main? NOPE. Did I destroy the car? No. Did I go out, do my best and have fun? You bet your ass I did!! And although I truly do enjoy it and at times wish I can do it again, I wouldn't change how things are now. I absolutely, without a doubt, LOVE being a race Dad to my talented Daughter! That in itself is more important to me above all else. Racing careers can be restarted. Time spent with your children cannot.

Well… Kayden has been fighting a migraine with blurry vision for the last three days and decided not to race tonight and risk injuring herself or others. Instead Jeremy is racing in her spot. He starts P2 in the 3rd heat. He ran some hot laps and the car seems on point after all of the work he did to the motor this week. It’s been 4 years since he last raced. He needs prayers for safety and quick hands.

Pulled the car out of the trailer last night to assess the body damage. Looks like Kayden has quite a bit of hammering out to do to the driver's side door, quarter panel and nose. I would help but every time I drive her car and break anything she tells me "you broke it so you get to fix it!"

My my my...how the table has turned 😁

Race recap for 6/21:

After weeks of rain outs and a short family vacation to Florida last weekend, we were finally able to race. It certainly wasn't the day we expected.
First, we had a major blow out on the trailer on the way.
Second, during Kayden's heat race, the car kept loosing power when she would press the gas pedal. After checking it over I found the #2 plug had fouled and one other was misfiring.
Lastly, Kayden got caught in a pile up during her Feature race ending the night early. She was doing so damn good too! She was consistent in her turns (for once 😄), making passes, and just driving the hell out of the car the best she could on a very rough/rutted up track.
She started 16th and was in 9th before the accident took her out. She is fine and the car is good, just minor body damage and a snapped power steering fitting. We will get everything fixed and she will be back on the track in no time.
Thank you to our wonderful sponsors and family for helping us each week to keep our girl racing!
