What an experience the last five years have been. Bands and artists, even the ones you discover for the first time, often turn out to have been doing it for ten years or more. There is something undeniable about that kind of longevity. You can hear the ten-year sound and you can feel the ten-year process. I am grateful that I finally understand this. I remind myself every day that you have to enjoy the journey if you want to truly enjoy the destination.

Walking an unconventional path means you learn these truths in your own way and at your own pace. That discovery, on your own terms, is part of the magic.

Blue Beach is in its fifth year. We might be heading into the fifth or leaving it. I am terrible with timelines, but I know this with certainty. I am more confident and clearer than I have ever been.

I appreciate everyone who passed on us. I appreciate everyone who big-timed us. I even appreciate the people who looked at the worst parts of me and decided that was the whole story. All of it has been a deeply nutritious experience that taught me exactly what I needed to learn.

I am an anarchist at heart. There is no force in my world and I have never required it, yet this still happened. People showed up. People were generous.
