Good afternoon,

First, does anyone know how to recover an account after it has been disabled? They have informed me that the account will be reactivated, but did not provide instructions on how to recover it. Any assistance would be appreciated. My former account John Ross had over 6000 followers and close to 5000 friends. I was very disappointed when this happened to me .

The summer months are quickly approaching, and we will be hosting our back-to-school event on August 6th. Immediately following this, we will celebrate 45 years of full-time ministry with our Black-Tie Extravaganza. All glory goes to God for this milestone. By His grace, I have had the privilege of being a part of this esteemed ministry from its inception. We have certainly faced numerous challenges, yet we have also experienced many victories granted by God, making significant differences in countless lives. It will undoubtedly be a night of celebration, and I hope you will mark your calendar for this important occasion. (Last evening we heard great news for one of our speakers) both Laura and I are excited. This is going to be a great celebration of 45 years.

Im always grateful to our volunteers. Anthony found out from his dad's side he is Native American, part Navajo and Blackfeet.

More cereal coming from our partner school Bret Lynn middle school over 350 boxes of cereal, after today, nice.

Good morning!

Memorial Day weekend was a blast for me. On Friday, I had the pleasure of speaking with two military chaplains. They were so grateful that we could help many of our active military families with food. They were amazed at all the delicious and nutritious food we provided. One Major came yesterday.

On Friday, we received over 300 boxes of cereal from Bert Lynn Middle School in Torrance. We weren’t expecting this, but it was a huge blessing for our clients.

Good morning:
New Challenge Ministries has been actively engaged in its mission. We are dedicated to helping those in need through our services, available five days a week without any zip code restrictions. We have maintained our operations without relying on federal funding. Many inquire about how we sustain our efforts, and our response is that we owe it to God. Since opening our doors to support men with life-controlling issues in September 1981, we expanded our ministry to include food distribution in 2005. While this shift was unexpected, it became clear that God played a role in this transition.
Since childhood, I've learned that not knowing where your next meal comes from is frightening. Hunger affects everyone, regardless of age, race, political affiliation, or religion. When you have nothing, hunger is especially terrifying.
In September, New Challenge Ministries will celebrate 45 years of full-time ministry. Throughout these years, we have engaged with numerous families and individuals from various regions across the globe. There was an occasion when the Head of Human Resources at the United Nations in Brussels reached out to us concerning her son, who was admitted to a local hospital and required our program. She was in New York at the time and was inquiring about programs to support her son. Upon visiting, she presented her credentials to me, and we were ready to help her son. Although she found our program impressive, her son ultimately chose to leave school and return home with her. I believe this was one of many significant moments in my career.
One of our volunteers, a Harvard graduate, is helping me compile my story into a written piece and documentary. It has been more challenging and intense than I anticipated, especially reliving some difficult moments from my past. The reason for my absence is that many of our volunteers, family members, and clients are dealing with illnesses or losing their kids through the courts.
Please keep New Challenge Ministries in your prayers. If you like to support our work financially that would be great. If you like to do other like collecting food or volunteering please go to our website: www.newchallengeministries.org.

This posting is dedicated to our volunteers.

I extend my sincere gratitude to our dedicated volunteers, ranging from the elderly to the younger generation.
The younger volunteers exhibit remarkable work ethic and unwavering dedication in providing assistance to those in need. Many of them have subsequently pursued higher education and maintain their connections with our organization. Some have even returned to volunteer their time. Currently, we have a graduate from MIT and a graduate from Harvard collaborating with us on our social media efforts. Two sisters are pursuing careers in dentistry and medicine. Dario, a Harvard graduate, initially aspired to become a filmmaker and relocated to Hollywood. However, his experiences there did not align with his aspirations. Consequently, he has embraced his dream of becoming a championship boxer. Notably, he created a documentary about his late mother, who succumbed to kidney cancer a few years ago, which is available on Amazon. Presently, he is filming me to share my story.
For three years we has Wes, a captain in the Space Force.
We have two high school volunteers, one at Redondo Union and another at Mira Costa, who have each logged over 100 hours of volunteer work. Additionally, we have two young men from Redondo Union who volunteer after school to provide invaluable assistance. Then recently Nolan has joined us to help this summer. He’s a graduate of West High and is attending Grand Canyon University in AZ. We presently have three married couples helping us. We have several mother and daughters a dad and his son. Plus we have our adult children helping us and our granddaughter Olivia. I’m blessed to have met so many nice individuals over the years. People who have brought their family in wanting to meet me and when you have young people saying they want to be like me, I smile as no amount of money can buy those words.

Come rain or shine we will be open today!

Good morning! I’ve got some news to share, both good and not-so-good. The not-so-good news is that we’re seeing more and more new people coming to the food bank every day because the need is great. If anyone could help us collect canned goods and staples, that would be a huge help!

Laura tried to register for the Stamp Out food program from the post office, but it didn’t work out. On the bright side, we’re open five days a week, which is great!

Unfortunately, I just got a call from two food banks that we’ve helped in the past. They’re closing their doors, which is really tough financially. It’s not like I’m saying anything new, but it’s been a tough time.

From the very beginning, New Challenge hasn’t relied on the federal government. We rely on prayer every day, hoping that God will help us. It’s been a long journey, and I’ve been here from the beginning. But we’re all about the glory of God, and that’s what keeps us going.

We’re thrilled to share some wonderful news! More and more people are volunteering with us, and it’s heartwarming to see a daughter bringing her mom along. One young man is giving up his summer vacation from college to help us for four months by picking up food donations at the stores helping relieve Justin some. His mom is the director of Food and Nutrition at Torrance Memorial Medical Center. And in June and December, we’ll be welcoming the new nurses from TMMC to join us twice a month for over forty new nurses. As a special gesture, they’ve made it mandatory for all new nurses to participate in our volunteer program every year. We’re so excited about this new partnership and can’t wait to see what the future holds!

Mark your calendars! Starting September 1st, we’ll be celebrating 45 years of ministry . That’s a big milestone, and I’m so proud of what we’ve accomplished. I’ve been here all the years, and I know that we’ve made a difference in people’s lives. We will have our Black Tie Extravaganza on September 20th too.
Thank you for your support, and God bless you all!

Good afternoon!

We’ve been through a lot lately. Many of our volunteers have been in the hospital, and even one of them was attacked by a young man. Our friend Jon, who’s 74, was beaten and broke his femur. He ended up in the hospital and is now on the road to recovery. Jon doesn’t have any family, but he lives in a motor home with his dog. My wife and I adopted Jon for Christmas last year, and it was such a joy to see him start weeping with tears of joy. Jon is a fighter. He had pancreatic cancer last year, but he had treatment and is now in remission.

It’s been almost two months since my ‘John Ross Hernandez’ account was disabled by Facebook, but that’s okay. I’m still going. I hope they’ll give it back soon. In the meantime, please keep sharing my posts with others.

Thanks to the young group from Lions Heart for making sandwiches and snacks for our homeless community. Also, thanks to Rolling Hills Day School for their third year of collecting clothes.

I’m so grateful to all the young ladies graduating from NCL Pier Chapter this year. It made my day when I saw so many of them share their favorite volunteer spot - New Challenge Ministries. It’s been a wonderful seven years of partnership between NCL Pier Chapter and us, and it’s been great to see some of the ladies stay in touch or come back to volunteer. And last week, the young men from Good Community Church came to our aid, and their leader, Pastor Ben, said he’ll be back!

Many have asked and I know you’ve all been eagerly waiting for our black-tie event. Well, mark your calendars for September 20th, a Saturday at the Torrance Marriott. Can’t wait to see you all there!

Just a heads up before I wrap up. I’ve been asked a lot to turn my story into a book or a movie. I actually did put together a partial transcript years ago, but I passed on a few book offers from friends a few years back. But then, this amazing young man, a Harvard grad with a degree in art, reached out. He wanted to make movies, went to Hollywood, but realized it wasn’t his calling. Turns out, he’s become a professional boxer! He’s been volunteering with us and even made a documentary about his mom, who passed away from kidney cancer. It’s on Amazon, by the way. As I was sharing my journey, he asked if he could make a documentary about me. I was a bit hesitant, so I talked to my wife and family about it. Well, yesterday, we finally started my documentary!
