From The Foxfield Races press release, January 7, 2021
"We wish all a Happy New Year and we are all looking forward to 2021.
As you know, our spring races are scheduled for April 24th. After much careful consideration, our Board has decided that the chances of the pandemic being well enough controlled by April is slim enough that we will not be able to have a normal race meet this spring. Things could change, but not in enough time to prepare for a normal meet.
Therefore, we will put all our efforts into our Fall Races on October 3rd. We will have an enhanced event with emerging sponsorship opportunities and offer increased purses for the races to attract a top field of runners. We will be announcing these plans as we emerge from the pandemic and look forward to hosting everyone in October.
Thank you for supporting the Foxfield Races."

#TBT "Man o' War's son the dual-winner of the Maryland Hunt Cup, Blockade, photographed the day after his most recent win." (Maryland Horse, July 1939)
"The running of the Maryland Hunt Cup of 1939 will long be remembered as one of the most stirring spectacles witnessed in the race for many years. While the time of the race was not as fast as last year's, 9.16 as against 8.44, yet I am sure that the last mile and a half of the race was never before run as fast. Blockade and Coq Bruyere ran lapped for all of that distance with the son of Man o' War leading to the end. The sight of the pair flying their fences as they raced for home had the 12,000 odd spectators scattered over the hillsides right on their toes. And tremendous was the cheering when it was seen that, for the second time running Blockade had scored an all-Maryland win."

“This race was like a gathering of old friends, and it's one I'll remember a long time,” Robb Levinsky said, acknowledging that the win stands out as a rare high moment during the day-to-day struggles of the pandemic. “It's not been an easy year for the world, so racing has been an escape from a tough year for all of us. It's not perfect, it doesn't make up for everything, but it has definitely helped.”

Wishing the best of luck to Maryland-bred JOHN JONES in his retirement, which was announced earlier today by his longtime trainer Lacey Gaudet! The 8-year-old gelded son of Smarty Jones was claimed by Gaudet and owner Matthew Schera for $20,000 July 17, 2016, and went on to win three stakes and hit the board in five others over five seasons, retiring with a record of 12-4-6 from 47 career starts and $600,364 earned. He made his final start Nov. 20 at Laurel Park.
"Now he gets to enjoy a well-deserved retirement. He won’t be going far from us as we take time to let him tell us what his next adventure will be! Thank you John Jones, for everything you’ve given me! It’s been one hell of a ride...," wrote Gaudet.
Bred by Nancy Lee Farms, John Jones is a son of the multiple stakes-winning mare Chrusciki, a daughter of Polish Numbers. He is one of six winning starters the mare has produced from nine foals, including Eastern Bay (by E Dubai). Chrusciki had a filly by Exaggerator this April and has been bred to Irish War Cry for 2021.

Dates for the 2021 Thoroughbred racing season at Colonial Downs were approved Dec. 17 by the Virginia Racing Commission at its quarterly meeting, which was held virtually.
It's hard not to love a story about a horse like Awsome Faith, winner of this year's West Virginia Breeders Classic Stakes at Race Charles Town Oct. 10! The 7-year-old gelding recently finished third in the A Huevo Stakes (Dec. 11), with his overall record standing at 10-13-11 from 52 career starts and $316,043 in earnings. A West Virginia-bred son of Country Life and Merryland Farms Friesan Fire, Awsome Faith is owned/trained by Jeffrey S. Allen 🐴
You can read all about him and the rest of the winners on WVBC night in the December issue!
Fan-favorite Southern Phantom will stand in Virginia!
We are so excited to have this stallion as an addition to our stallion lineup! Thank you so much to Catherine Jennings for letting me know about this stallion and Danny and Allison Caldwell for entrusting their phenomenal stallion to us!
Southern Phantom is a 4 yr old 16.1 hand bay TB stallion who is one of the most photographed TB's due to his unique coloration. He retired from racing this year sound!!! He has great legs, quiet disposition, and wants to work. He will be in the VA bred program with the VA thoroughbred association and in the VA paint horse color futurity!
Southern Phantom is by Bodemeister who was trained by Bob Baffert and won the 2012 Arkansas Derby and was second in the Kentucky Derby and Preakness in 2012. Bodemeister sired 2017 Kentucky Derby winner Always Dreaming. You may not remember Bodemeister was born right here in Virginia!!!! Southern Phantom is out of Out for Revenge by Bernardini. Bernardini has 22 graded stakes winners on dirt in the last 5 years and only Storm Cat can top his 25 career $500k + 2 yr old sales!!!
Southern Phantom has coloration enough to be registered with regular paint registry which is being completed as we speak and we are working on getting his "T" number for AQHA. So for those of you that love those Double registered horses this is one to consider! He carries the W20 gene which means he will throw chrome but DOES NOT carry the lethal white gene. He is correct in his conformation and to be honest I think his true calling is in the hunter/jumper/eventing market. I would love to see him crossed with some barrel mares as well because I think he has the talent and hip to produce some turn and burn offspring! Crossed right he will add color! We plan to work on other registry approvals but this late in the game he needs to learn his job first and get to work! He will be available for collection ( all breeds) and live cover (TB only).
Now is the time to try the new kid on the block. I can tell you as his offspring start to soar his stud fee will go up!
Contact us for more information and to book your mare. Videos will be posted as soon as we get some decent weather!! photos by Carolyn Simancik

Congratulations to Virginia-bred LARGENT, winner of the Ft. Lauderdale Stakes-G2 at Gulfstream Park Saturday, Dec. 12!
The 4-year-old gelding, trained by Todd Pletcher, won his graded stakes debut by two lengths at 16-1 for owner Twins Creek Racing Stables LLC and Eclipse Thoroughbred Partners as he punched his ticket to next month's $1 million Pegasus World Cup Turf-G1! It was his third stakes win of the year following the Edward P. Evans in July at Colonial Downs and the Bert Allen at Laurel Park in October. Largent finished second in the Lure Stakes at Saratoga in September.
Debuting last March as a 3-year-old, the son of Into Mischief has yet to finish worse than second in nine career starts, as his most recent win improved his record to 6-3-0 with $314,470 in earnings. Bred by Lazy Lane Farms, he was purchased by his current connections for $460,000 as a yearling at the 2017 Keeneland September sale.
