Karin grows up in a family where comparisons and favoritism play a major role. While Yuzu is repeatedly overlooked and mistreated, Karin receives attention and advantages that reinforce her position within the family. That environment helps explain some of Karin’s choices, but it does not automatically excuse them.
At the same time, Karin is not simply a helpless victim. She makes decisions of her own, understands the impact some of those choices have on Yuzu, and often chooses to protect her own position rather than question the unfair system around her.
That is what makes her character more complicated than simply calling her “good” or “bad.” Her upbringing clearly influences her behavior, while her personal choices still shape her consequences.
The real tragedy may be that Karin was raised to believe that winning her family’s approval mattered more than the damage it caused someone else.
So is Karin’s fate karma, the result of selfish parenting, or a combination of both?
That debate is exactly what makes her character so interesting.
Fact: Karin and Yuzu are sisters in The Ogre’s Bride, and their family relationship is an important part of Yuzu’s character development.
