🎤 Our latest podcast discusses how a Reno man gambling at the Peppermill was arrested for trespass. He says he showed police his ID — and had several forms of other identification— but he still got hauled off because a casino’s facial recognition software flagged him as someone else. He’s now suing the police officer. The lawsuit claims the officer left out key info. to make it look like the man couldn’t prove who he was. The city of Reno’s defense? All those IDs could be fake.

⚠️ CHECK YOUR KIDS. There was glass in the tots today at area schools.

Good afternoon, Washoe County School District Families—

This is an important message from the district for Tuesday, November 25.
Today, a lunch item available at our elementary schools – frozen and reheated tater tots—was found to contain small glass-like objects. One student reported a minor cut to their finger, and no other injuries have been reported.
Upon receiving these reports, the district initiated an investigation, and out of an abundance of caution, WCSD Nutrition Services directed all schools to immediately remove all tater tots. WCSD also notified the national distributor and its vendor who provided this frozen food to our district.

😮 Staff members at twelve elementary schools reported these objects in the tater tots today, and we have no current knowledge that any other schools were affected.
Those 12 schools are:
Esther Bennett
Rita Cannan
Roger Corbett
Desert Heights
Florence Drake
Nancy Gomes
Dorothy Lemelson
Bernice Mathews
Virginia Palmer
Silver Lake
Stead
Kate Smith

The safety of our students is our highest priority, and the investigations into these incidents will continue. If you have additional information, please contact Nutrition Services at [email protected] or call (775) 353-5930.

Thank you.

NV Energy is warning customers to watch out for holiday scams that target personal information. The company said scammers are creating fake websites that appear in online searches, leading people to unknowingly share sensitive details while trying to set up service or make payments.

Officials said employees are trained to identify scams, but customers should only use the phone number on the back of their bill and the official website to manage accounts. Customer service representatives will not ask for banking information.

Reno City Council members discussed what Reno Police Chief Kathryn Nance called a growing safety concern involving modified e-bikes and scooters. Nance said many high-powered or altered devices exceed legal limits and are often used unsafely by kids and teens. She noted that anything over 750 watts is classified as a moped or motorcycle and requires registration and safety equipment. RPD has issued more than 40 citations, and officers are working to educate youth and parents. The council approved continued work with legislators and stakeholders to create clearer legal classifications.

Nevada’s energy regulator upheld a daily surcharge that will raise solar users’ costs by about $12 a month. Clean energy advocates said no other public utility commission has approved a similar charge and warned of negative impacts, including solar companies leaving the state. The Public Utilities Commission of Nevada sided with NV Energy in the rate case.

Advocates said legal challenges may be considered. Hundreds testified against the charge, saying it harms residents and sets a precedent for other states.
