What's the Story?

Tuesday we have a special What’s the Story/Book Hound with the emphasis on The Book Hound. In April, I posted a piece on Thriller Thursday. We announced Otho Eskins newest release coming out in June. We’re pleased to tell you Otho will join us Tuesday July 15, 2025 at 8:30 a.m. Pacific, 11:30 Eastern to chat with us about his newest book: Black Sun Rising.

During Otho’s tenure in the foreign service, he was falsely named in a book as a CIA Operative. We’ll explore more about that and how or if it has had an effect on Otho’s career. One that extends beyond diplomacy and novelist. He is also a playwright who has covered a range of themes. His plays have been produced in various theaters, including off-Broadway and regional venues. They have gained attention for their provocative content and theatrical flair. Otho is an interesting guy, and we look forward to sharing his story with you on this Book Hound Edition.

Ed and I will catch you up a bit on why we missed last week! LOL and we’ll discuss a little about current events too. Don’t miss it! This will be an excellent show!

Legislators are at work across all 50 states. On even numbered years, Montana, North Dakota, Nevada and Texas are not in session. So it is a busy time for ALL states. We tend to focus on election related topics, but education is important too. There are a couple of bills we will discuss in today’s show and possibly tune into a session at the Nevada Legislature. But we’ll talk about a couple of other states too.

If you’re a history buff, listen to today’s show. Janice got a new book she will share that you might just want to hear about. Lots to talk about with all the different activities coming from the Trump administration. Tune in between 3-5 p.m. Pacific, Tuesday or listen to the replay on 93.7 FM in northern Nevada between 7-9 p.m. every Tuesday.

With so many things going on with the new administration, it’s hard to keep track. We won’t try to cover them all but we have selected a few stories that might pique your interest. The most obvious, of course, are the recent plane crashes; two in one week. Have you heard about the expedited approval from the Biden administration for Soros to take over some radio stations?

Former police chief and sheriff, Stewart Handte joins us in the first hour to share his story. If you don’t know who he is, it was a long 5+ year saga that just seems to continue in one form or another.

If you tried to log on to the USAID (usaid.gov) site on Sunday, you got a message that it could not be found. There is a lot of speculation about Elon Musk and DOGE having a hand in it possibly related to the Trump Administration’s actions. The answer is not clear at the time of this post. We’ll see what we can determine by the time we go on air on Tuesday.

New shows launch this month on the LeRue Press Network. “It’s About Accountability” and “Legislative Activities”, both covering some aspect of local, regional and national concerns and our representatives in government. In the first episode of “It’s About Accountability”, we covered the investigation of Devon Reese, Reno City Councilman and 2 ethics complaints. In addition, some political representatives seem to have a strong desire to merge Truckee Meadows Fire, City of Reno and Sparks Fire Departments. The outgoing Fire Chief was critical of this move unless there was further study of the consequences. Nevada goes into legislative session in February for 120 days. When does your state convene? Or are they already in session? We’ll talk about the different states and their approach to governing.

President Trump visited North Carolina and California in his first week in office. We’ve received a couple of reports via tips and social media that paint a difficult picture of what is happening in California. All unconfirmed reports but troublesome.

We’ll update you on the state of Beneficial Ownership reporting. And Doug’s working on stories that you just can’t make up! On a more light-hearted note, we’ll have food for thought on Super Bowl favorites and publishing industry challenges.

Inauguration day has come and gone but brought a couple of surprises. Pardons, executive orders from both sides and many events despite the very cold weather in Washington. Was it what you expected? President Trump is calling it “Liberation Day”.

Have you considered what it would take to care for a loved one in the event of a health event? Have you planned ahead? Do you think it’s necessary? Ed’s experience has given him “food for thought”.

As most authors know, there are no shortcuts to publishing a book. There’s a group that is trying to shortcut the process to publish A LOT of books in a year. Will they be successful?
