The Renton City Council voted Monday night to once again pause the city’s use of Flock cameras, a system that automatically photographs and records the license plate of every car that drives past. The 4-3 vote at the May 4 meeting came after some back-and-forth among council members, who weighed concerns about privacy and the safety of Renton’s immigrant communities against the cameras’ role in solving violent crimes.

⛔ Southbound I-405 will be closed from Coal Creek Parkway Southeast (Exit 10) to North 30th Street (Exit 6) from 11:30 p.m. Friday, May 8 to 4 a.m. Monday, May 11.

Plan ahead and expect delays! Crews with WSDOT will pave, excavate drainage crossings and complete a traffic switch as part of the I-405/Renton to Bellevue Widening and Express Toll Lanes Project.

When Emily Brooker opened Esme & Elodie, she thought she was opening a clothing boutique. She quickly realized she was opening something more. On January 7, she set aside a corner of the store and launched a Free Community Closet in partnership with Dress for Success Seattle. In that time over 2500 pounds of clothes have been donated.

A couple dozen residents gathered Tuesday, April 21, for the latest “What’s Brewing with Ed,” where Chief Administrative Officer Ed VanValey answered questions on housing, parking, transit, and a long list of local projects. The 5:30 p.m. session also featured the City’s principal planner and assistant planner, who walked attendees through a wave of state-driven changes coming to Renton.
