The new episode is live!

You can watch it now on my YouTube channel, https://www.youtube.com/, my website at czmediapodcast.com, Apple Podcast, and Spotify!

In this one, I sit down with filmmaker Eric Morgret to talk about our short film The Connoisseur, its run at festivals, a lively debate about AI and what it means for actors and residuals, and I open up about some personal loss for the first time on the show. It’s a mix of filmmaking, real talk, and some emotional stuff.

Him took itself way too seriously, and that tone worked against it from the start. You could follow the plot, but you kept asking why characters made certain choices or why certain events mattered. The story kept stacking ideas without grounding them, so the tension never felt earned. Moments that were supposed to land came off confusing instead of compelling. By the time the big twist arrived, it couldn’t hold up the weight of everything before it. The twist collapsed on itself, leaving you with an ending that didn’t connect, didn’t resolve much, and didn’t feel worth the buildup.

Drive Back (2024) – 4.6 / Wack

Predictable from start to finish. The story drags and leans too hard on clichés you’ve seen a hundred times. It repeats ideas instead of building momentum. The writing is serviceable and the acting holds up, but neither lifts the movie above average.
A few “ahh” moments remind you what it could’ve been, but they fade quick. Decently made, just uninspired.

You walk away thinking: that could’ve been better.

Together didn’t work for me. The leads had no real chemistry, which made the relationship feel flat. The story was messy, hard to follow, and weighed down by how seriously it tried to present itself. Instead of feeling meaningful, it just felt heavy-handed and confusing.

My rating: 3.4 Mega Wack

That said, in full truth—I wasn’t exactly sober while watching. There’s a chance I missed half the plot or even merged it with another movie in my head. Maybe I owe Together a rewatch just to confirm if it’s truly bad, or if the problem was me.

Stay tuned!

Babygirl – 3.1 (Mega Wack)
The plot was ridiculous and every character was extremely unlikable. I get what they were trying to do with the premise, maybe something raw or edgy, but it never landed. It felt forced and nonsensical from start to finish. Nicole Kidman clearly took on this role just to be called brave, but even she could not save it. I was constantly waiting for something to happen but nothing ever did. Just a slow aimless mess that confused bold with boring.

Secretary tackled this same theme with far better character development and storytelling. It actually gave you a reason to care.

Final Destination: Bloodlines – 7.8 (Dig)

This one was creative, fun, and put a good spin on the franchise. It played with the formula just enough to feel fresh without losing what makes these movies work. Some solid kills, cool visuals, and it actually made me care about a couple of the characters.
